I had been looking for a fisheye for a while and finally I got this one as a present. This has to be the most fun lens in my bag. Sure doing portraits and landscapes are nice but there is something so special about a fisheye that until you've shot with one its hard to describe how fun it really is to just go out and shoot with.

I live in Japan and shooting fisheye in urban settings is awesome. The wide angle also helps with a lot of the tightly compacting living spaces and areas of Tokyo.

The depth of field is crazy you can pretty much touch the lens and still have things in focus.

This lens may not have the everyday uses for a portrait shooter but if you're out and like to take creative shots or need a really wide angle then this could be what you're looking for.

On the negative side, first time users be cautious that the lens has a 180 degree field of view so you may unintentionally find your feet or shoulders or even your hands in the shot.

Also being that it's a fisheye there are no cheap uv filters/plain glass protectors that you can throw on it to ensure your lens doesn't get dirty, oily, or scratched. I'm sure if you've done your research you've read that most people only take the lens cap off when its time to shoot. I would recommend the same.

Aside from some minor inconveniences that are really just things one needs to learn while shooting with a different type of lens, this lens is great.

I used to make a manual panaromic with my camera and now with this fish eye, i now can make it a real wide angle magic and really can now use it to my optimum requirement of 180 degree. I use a software to make the edges straight and i am sure this is an wonderful toy, i ever had it before.

Comments about Nikon 10.5mm f/2.8G ED DX Fisheye Nikkor Lens:

I use this lens for the few 360° virtual tours I do for clients. I've been renting one, but decided to finally buy one. Yes, you do get extreme distortion, but its a 10.5, what do you expect? Chromatic Aberration is an issue with this lens, but that's what you get with extreme w/a lenses. This is more of a feature of digital CCD's than actual lenses. It is also easily fixed in P/S. The auto feature doesn't cure it, but you can fine tune it in lens correction. If you're looking for an extreme wide angle lens for a Nikon dx body, get this one. You cannot put a filter on this lens, but I'm not sure how you could anyway without making it a much larger.

Comments about Nikon 10.5mm f/2.8G ED DX Fisheye Nikkor Lens:

In the limited time I have owned this lens I have used it only once. I acquired it because I capture a lot of museum displays, of large objects in cramped spaces and I expect that this lens will supplement the angle of view of my 10-24mm conventional lens.

When I did use the lens it performed as expected in terms of the images that it captured. With the extremely short barrel length of this lens, you must remember to not grip the lens when aiming the camera for a shot, only hold the camera by gripping the camera body. When you depress the shutter release the camera autofocus system will activate, and the camera will be rotating the focussing ring on the lens barrel, you do not want to interfere with that focussing action.

I am looking forward to exploring the possibillities with this lens.

Comments about Nikon 10.5mm f/2.8G ED DX Fisheye Nikkor Lens:

I chose this lens over the Nikon 16mm fisheye due to the lack of availability of Nikon's full frame sensor cameras, I am currently using a D300 DX body. For a DX lens I am very satisfied with the QTVR shoots as well as many single frame shots. The one thing that I would have liked to have seen was more clarity in the details, especially when viewing at 100%. I would, however, like to test the full frame 16mm primary lens before passing any final judgment. The clarity and detail compared to a Nikon 17-35mm f2.8 lens is atrocious, but this just may be comparing apples and oranges.

The only really poor design aspect is the lens cover, for a lens that does not allow for a front mounted filter to protect vital glass I think should have a lens cap that won't fall off like some cheap toy. DO NOT LEAVE THIS LENS ATTACHED IN YOUR CAMERA BAG! Instead be sure to tuck it away in the cheesy pouch provided.

I took the lens to my trip to Seattle. Performed wonderfully. I got some great landscape city shots, and some intimate shots of building interiors. It can pretty much work for anything, you just have to be creative. I was a bit disappointed that the lens does not autofocus on the D3100, but I was expecting that since the D3100 does not have an internal autofocus motor.

Comments about Nikon 10.5mm f/2.8G ED DX Fisheye Nikkor Lens:

I bought a 55-200mm lens with the D7000 camera and could not take wide angle photos of the hotel suite. The fish eye lens gave me the ability to do so.

My wife actually hates to look of fish eye pictures but with the full frame image, she's coming around. This is a lens that has places but you can over do it with this look.
The lens itself is great. It's small, light weight and the pics are crisp.

This was a great buy for me. The lens focuses fast and is light weight. I use it on my D300 attached to a monopod that I boom out over a crowded dance floor and I get some great shots. I use the 2 second time delay... click the shutter and then reach out over the crowd.

I use it for party photography
the things that is great about it is it got really wide angle so it cover the whole area of what i want to take a picture of and also made a weird angle that i never seen before too.
things that aren't so great about it?
i would said that is not that sharp. that's the only thing i can come up wtih.

The things that are great about it are too many to count, but the ones I like best are... you can take close up macro shots or wide angle landscapes. You can make the same photograph opportunity look 100 different ways and the photos come out crisp and clear. The only negative about it that I can find is there is no option to zoom, but I assume that zooming is not optional on any fish eye lens? I am only an amateur.
