International orders*Lens hoods are primarily designed to prevent unwanted stray light from entering the lens by extending and shading the end of the lens. In addition, since the end of the lens is extended, you also get the added benefit of some extra protection from accidental impact.
The "petal" shape of this lens hood maximizes the amount of hood coverage for the minimum amount of weight and hood area. This dedicated lens hood is designed to match the specific focal length of the lens it was designed for.

Comments about Nikon HB-31 Lens Hood:
Got confused when I saw those cheaper brands. But I'm so glad I made the right choice. Well built.

Comments about Nikon HB-31 Lens Hood:
original lens hood took a hit during sports activity=broke lens hood but saved lens & camera. Had to replace lens hood and will not use lens without one. The small investment for lens hood is so minimal compared to a destroyed lens.

Comments about Nikon HB-31 Lens Hood:
Being Nikon, it works great but it could have a tighter, more positive fitting "click-on" when you attach it to the lens. Most professional photojournalists will probably just secure it to their lens by wrapping duct tape around it. While that works okay, it becomes a real pain when you need to remove the hood for adjustment of a polarizer or other filters. I prefered the old Nikon lens hoods that screwed on like filters.

This is a necessary piece of factory equipment. It not only protects the glass lens but also helps prevent lens flare caused by bright light.

It's everything I expected. It fits perfectly to the lens and the construction seems to be solid. I think it's a bit of overprice.

Comments about Nikon HB-31 Lens Hood:
Recently I fell while taking pictures and broke my lens hood on the 17-55mm f2.8 Nikor lens. Fortunately my lens was unscathed. B&H had the hood in stock at what I felt was a good price. I ordered it and received the hood a few days later. It looks and performs like the original that came with the lens. I recommend this hood to any that need a replacement.

Though it comes with the lens if you purchase new. If you don't have it it is a must have during daylight shooting

Comments about Nikon HB-31 Lens Hood:
This is great hood. It has the bayonet mount with the lockable catch, similar to the 70-200 VR f/2.8 and other Nikon pro lenses. It protects the front element and does a great job keeping stray light away from the glass. Don't use with the built-in flash because you'll get some serious shadows. Also, it does not easily fit into many camera cases.

Comments about Nikon HB-31 Lens Hood:
I use this hood exclusively for lens protection. My camera hit the floor and the hood took all of the impact. Whew. Much cheaper than a new lens!!
