The 72mm Circular Polarizer II Filter from Nikon is an upgraded version of the original Nikon Circular Polarizer. This filter is now slimmer in design leaving the front and rear threads the same size as opposed to the original version that featured a larger front thread. The filter is now multi-coated which is a benefit in that it minimizes any flare and glare that reaches the sensor or film plane of your camera. This means more saturation and clearer images that are more crisp and contrasty.
The front ring rotates with the polarization visible in the viewfinder or on your LCD screen. When shooting on a bright day, this means you can control the "blueness" of the sky as well as having control of how distinct you want the cloud formations. For the outdoor shooter, this filter is a must since it is the only way to make a blue sky bluer. In addition, when shooting into water or glass, you can minimize or eliminate the reflections often associated with landscape or scenic photography. Therefore, if you're shooting a store window or inside a museum into a showcase, glass obstructions will no longer be a problem. A polarizer tends to have its maximum effect when used at right angle to the sun. A polarizing filter, along with a UV filter should be a part of everyone's gear.
Note! Circular polarizers are specifically designed for use with auto-focus SLR cameras (They will also work on manual systems without problems)

Was a little hesitant when the sales guy at B&H suggested it because it's pricey but he really knew what he was talking about. It's an awesome filter with great clarity, compact and rotates great. Never worried that I was loosening the filter ring when rotating it, unlike other CPs I've had. I've had CP filters from other brands like Tiffen & Hoya but this is the best by far. Just came back from 2 weeks in Hawaii where I shot a lot of water, sky and other landscapes - results were great. Cut glare and really gave the pictures that extra punch they needed at times.

Just finished talking with TS at Nikon. If a drop of rain water stays on the filter for more than 60 seconds--the water will lift the coating and the filter will be ruined. Interesting property for a filter that is to be used outdoors where one can be caught in a shower at any time.

Wonderful filter, easy to adjust and good polarization to image. There is no vignetting even at 12mm. I have three of these same filters for my 67,72 and 77mm Nikon Lens. I would recommend these filters to any photographer.

Comments about Nikon 72mm Circular Polarizer Glass Filter II:
I use this filter on my Nikon AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VRII Zoom Lens. The frame is made of metal, and the lens of high quality glass. I am a Conservation Police Officer and work on and around water everyday. Therefore I require a good quality polarizing filter on my lens for my photos, and the Circular Polarizer Glass Filter II by Nikon is the best quality I have found and it works best on my Nikkor lens.

Comments about Nikon 72mm Circular Polarizer Glass Filter II:
While I have been using circular polarizing filters for 25+ years, I never really went upscale. Finally, I bought the Nikon CP Glass Filter II and have noticed improved results with color saturation and contrast over my old CP Filter.

Comments about Nikon 72mm Circular Polarizer Glass Filter II:
This lens is getting very hard to find - I've heard Nikon won't be selling lens in the future. That being said, I was very excited to find this lens for my D7000. The lens is just simply everything you would expect from a Nikon lens. It brightens the colors easily, easy to adjust and the Nikon lens cap fits over it. I wouldn't change a thing...

I use this with a D90 with an 18-200mm zoom. I gain a full EV in sunlit snow with no worry of blown highlights. I shoot extensively through windows at bird feeders, with filter window reflection is nonexistent. Contrast is increased, especially important at midday. I have seen no evidence of vignette at wide focal lengths due to thin construction. Wish there was a mark on ring for quick alignment with sun.

I used this for the first time when on vacation in FL. The sky was bright blue and the water on the beach beautiful shades of blue and some days rough.
The lens filter resulted in brilliant blues and the pics need very little if any photoshop work.
No vingnetting either.

Comments about Nikon 72mm Circular Polarizer Glass Filter II:
Essential filter for all outdoor photography. Kills reflections of all non metallic objects and helps creat deep blue skies. Best when shooting at a 90 degree angle to the sun. Slim glass on the Nikon filter helps prevent vignetting at wide angel settings on lens. Filter has a two stop light loss which you can use to your advantage when you do not have a ND filter available.
