Using auto white balance is easy but sometimes especially in a dark setting it gets too yellowish. Since I discover the importance of white balance, I became faithful using it all the time. If Im outside and if its sunny I use the Direct Sunlight, If I use the flash then I use the flash white balance as well. Sometimes you may be trapped in a situation that you are in a mixed source of light. Perfect example is when you are in your room, there is light coming from your ceiling, light coming from the window and light coming from different reflections. There will be no preset to shoot and get an accurate color on this situation. This will be a good time to use this white balance card. Let me explain how to use this white card. If you have Canon 20D, 30D 40D or 50D, all you have to do is take a picture of this card, oooopps if you are a beginner you might find a hard time focusing it, since its a plain white you have to set your white balance to Manual focus, switch it on your lens. Set white balance first to AWB. Make sure you are shooting this card on the same place you will do shooting with your subject preferably the exact angle and exact place. Also make sure that the whole frame shows only the white card, try to avoid reflections because your sensor will read that color and will give you a wrong white balance. After shooting the card, go to menu and look for the custom white balance setting, then locate the file and save it as your custom white balance. Remember to change your white balance to custom. Now try shooting. You will see the difference!!!! If you use flash, you will still have to change your white balance to flash. For nikon users just go to PRE and shoot this card. Then you are good to go. If you want to be more serious you can also get an EXPODISC but as a beginner on the white balance business, this is a must. Cheap but very helpful. Make sure to keep it clean. I always put mine in plastic bag. Good luck

I didn't find it to be very accurate with my video camera. I also have used a digital camera target with white gray and black that I spent 45 bucks on and it works much better. Of course I'm pointing the camera at just the white portion of my target
The portabrace card was not a true white and when I tested it along with a standard sheet if white paper, I got the same results. I don't use the portabrace white card any more.

Comments about Porta Brace White Balance Card:
The card seems sturdy enough to last a lifetime. The surface reflectivity is a little shiny but I have not had any problem with it. The card is a little large for the equipment bag but the large size makes it easy to use. This card works as advertised.

Comments about Porta Brace White Balance Card:
I love the convenience of this white balance card. It's is a strong material so it won't bend or tear. The size is perfect to fit into a large pant pocket. And the cord makes it easy to hang the card on my tripod so it's always available to re-white balance my camera.
I also use it to block sunlight when shooting into a low sun.

Comments about Porta Brace White Balance Card:
Very durable, small, yet big enough that it can be zoomed in on for long shots. I previously was using just a white piece of paper, but that could become wrinkled or misplaced easily. This stays with my equipment and does not bend.

Comments about Porta Brace White Balance Card:
For field video use where consistent white balance is important, this would be a handy thing to have on hand.
I have a couple of the small WhiBal cards, so the material is a little thinner and glossier than I'm used to. This is not a bad thing, just different. The slightly glossy finish should be easy to wipe clean, but you would need to be conscious of the angle you hold it at and be aware of reflections.
It is not quite the same color as the WhiBal cards, which claim to be "certified neutral", but in most cases (e.g. ENG, or where the footage will later be graded anyway) it will be close enough. The main thing is that you'll have consistent color.
The size is big enough to easily fill the frame for video, and small enough to easily slip into a camera bag. The included strap (more of a black string, really) is handy for hanging it off a tripod.

You will need this for professional video shooting. Don't use a pice of paper. Printing paper often has more or purple in it and is not a pure white!

It's white. You're white balancing. Find something white and save your money. Nobody owns exclusive rights to the color white.

Mostly I like that its wipe-able.
Its a good size for studio or location, not so large that it can't fit in a bag pocket, and can be hung on a tripod or stand.

Comments about Porta Brace White Balance Card:
Great concept, good for use out while shooting in the field. For myself, I am a Wedding Videographer, so the ease of always having a white balance card in my case is great. Flexible and fits great in the cases and is always white, not going to fade out.

Comments about Porta Brace White Balance Card:
I gave this five stars because it is exactly as described and it does what it's advertised to do.
However, it's small and I have taken to usually just having my talent hold a large piece of white foam core up to balance off of before the shot.

Comments about Porta Brace White Balance Card:
I set the white balance with this card to take some shots in the house without flash. Normally I would get a heavy yellow cast without flash, but setting the balance cleared that up. I could have used a preset white balance on the camera but this allowed for more accuracy. It did seem to me that the color came out a little on the flat side, but I guess this is what it should do. Preset balance settings can "warm up" pics in varying degrees, but this results in WYSIWYG.
It isn't compact, but a person could always cut it to their desired size.

I've used this for a couple shots and it has worked great. In the past I would use white sheets of paper and this is so much better.

Comments about Porta Brace White Balance Card:
The product itself is as expected. It seems to accurartly allow white balance setting in either of two ways.1) within the camera using the "Custom White Balance" feature of the camera, or2) After including the card in at least one photo (calibration photo) in a given lighting situaiton, then later in post produciton adjusting the WB for the whole set of images based on sampling (eye dropper) the image of the white card.[...]

Don't know what more it's supposed to do. It came in handy in recent shoots. I normally would grab a sheet of paper and adjust balance that way. It's always good too have a card with you.
