Comments about Photogenic Battery for Studiomax AC/DC Monolights:
It's great when it decides to work. I purchased this unit to power my Studio max III on location. I had to return the first unit because it malfunctioned. Photogenic sent me a new unit in 2 weeks. The 'new' unit worked fine for a while, but after a few months it began malfunctioning on and off. Sometimes it worked, sometimes it didn't ? Fed up, I ordered a Quantum turbo and have never been happier. The Quantum is smaller, but provides 2-3 times as many pops. It is infinitely more reliable than the photogenic even on a low charge. Unfortunately, it is 3 times as expensive. Another option would be the Alien Bees Mini vagabond. I say save your money and pass on this unit.

Comments about Photogenic Battery for Studiomax AC/DC Monolights:
I tried on Canon 580ex, Vivitar 285HV & Nikon SB-800. After a full power flash, just need 1 sec to recover the charge. But cannot power on the Metz 70. This is important for me.

This is a great alternative to the Quantum! We use it every weekend with SB-800 and it works flawlessly. However, when powering up, be sure to turn on the battery then turn on the flash or else it will not function correctly.

Comments about Photogenic Battery for Studiomax AC/DC Monolights:
I wish I could say this totally met my needs for less than half the price as the Quantum. Unfortunately I would have to say it was adequate for a while and now I need to make another buying decision. I have owned this for two and a half years have used it for about 35 times on weddings and outdoor shoots. I use it to power a photogenic Studiomax 320B almost always at full power. I get 15 to 20 flashes and then I end up waiting for the thing to recharge before I can shoot again. Yesterday it only worked for 6 flashes and then it just would not give be a complete ready charge and the flash would not fire. The fuel gauge reads full but it won't flash. I took the thing out of the case and noticed that the removable battery cell was leaking a little bit. The nice thing is that there is a replacement battery and it is very reasonable. So I will probably go with that.
I haven't worked with the Quantum so i don't know if it is any better but I would say if you are a pro you most likely won't want to be waiting on the equipment.

Makes shooting on location easy. I also use the White Lightning Vagabond bag and they both work great...but the Photogenic system is lighter and more suitable for smaller spaces
