The 19 mm f2.8 Elmarit is one of the best Leica lenses and for many , the best Ultra Wide Angle, for its linearity , contrast and sharpness.
Like all Ultra Wide Angle lenses a lens hood is a necessity as the lens has an uncanny ability to pick up light from all angles. Leica has made a special rectangular lens hood that is as well made and as tough as the lens itself , and we are lucky that they did for Ultra Wide Angle lenses have a large frontal element that can be easily damaged if left unprotected. The good news is that they also make an equally impressive Lens hood cover that snaps in positively in place , essentially becoming one with the lens.
