The Sony EVI-D70 exceeded my expectations. The picture clarity was very good. I like the ability to preset up to 6 different locations, and then simply hit the preset button on the remote to move to the preset you selected. The back light feature is nice as well. Overall I would purchase this item again. I use this camera for live video streaming in flash format, and the results are very good.
The one request I would make from the manufacturer would be to add a slow function as the camera pan option is used. The up,down, left and right pan is a bit fast. The pan slows when zoomed on a close object, but when zoomed out it speeds up. It's not a big deal since I generally zoom at a person standing while they are speaking.

I bought this because megameeting advertised it on their website as a good conference room video camera. However, megameeting does not actually work with it. The picture on it looks like an 8 bit joke from the 70's on the few sites I can get to even display a picture from it. I can not find any webconferencing solution that even will let it broadcast a picture and I have used 4 different usb and pci capture cards, including the one sold specifically for it on the megameeting website. What a piece of junk!!! Do not buy it if you want to use it with a computer in any way. Do not Buy Sony. I wouldn't buy megameeting either because of their advertising it to work and it does not! Sony just said- tough it is not a computer camera- talk to your capture device people. They do not care and do not support it for anything other than being tied to a security system. I have a supercheap logitech camera that works fine. This thing cost 7 times as much and is a piece of trash.

Comments about Sony EVI-D70 1/4" CCD Color Pan/Tilt/Zoom Communication Camera:
This camera is great for my congregation. It is not HD yet it still shows clear enough video for most of TVs.
I used it to record the service and distribute the signal to other rooms.
It works very well and the remote controller has PAN/Zoom/Tilt so it does not really need any Pan controller for it.

Comments about Sony EVI-D70 1/4" CCD Color Pan/Tilt/Zoom Communication Camera:
We use it for presentation. Great zoom and clarity. Low light makes the picture grainy and the pan and tilt move to fast to make small adjustments. Needs a slow speed for that.

Used to capture Church services (Conference). Images 50' from pulpit were clear and sharp. I plan to purchase a second one for next conference.

Comments about Sony EVI-D70 1/4" CCD Color Pan/Tilt/Zoom Communication Camera:
I have three of these (non-IP) cameras in a neurodiagnostics lab to video patients in both visible and IR light. They are individually connected to seperate PCs via VISCA RS-232 serial cable and controlled via on-screen software (a truly excellent feature) provided by Sony at no charge. In terms of signal we just use the composite video out connected to a Winnov 1000+ AV card. Another great feature is the mechanical IR cut filter which enables excellent performance in low light/IR environments. I'll be buying two more of these units this week and will be installing them with S-Video cable. Pros: 1. Low cost. 2. Free PC interface software for remote control. 3. Mechanical cut filter. 4. Good picture. 5. 18X optical zoom 6. Easy to set up and use. 7. Still working flawlessly after 3 years.

Both of the cameras I purchased were used in a church sanctuary. Incredible product at a great entry level price. Unit is easy to use and works well with the Sony BCR300 controller. I found nothing to be not great about it.

Comments about Sony EVI-D70 1/4" CCD Color Pan/Tilt/Zoom Communication Camera:
We now have two of these units, both connected to the same Sony camera control unit. All our directors love it. This model is easy to install, has a sharp image even in low light situations, and we love the camera boot presets! The digital zoom even looks good.
By the way, the manual is written in normal English!

Comments about Sony EVI-D70 1/4" CCD Color Pan/Tilt/Zoom Communication Camera:
I've installed 2 of these in a web-based classroom along with the joystick remote control and they work great - very good range of motion and zoom. One camera is for the classroom presenter and the second is for the learners in the room. I only wish this camera supported more presets, but because it was a lower price it was the better choice for this instalation.

We use this camera in an Auditorium where lighting is not the best - we were blown away with the quality of video it provided for our recording!
