I learned about this screen from viewing the Strobist's David Hobby's DVD. He demonstrated how remarkably useful this self-expanding screen can be on remote sites and while, of course, being highly portable. Surfing the Net, I found B&H to be one of the very few places one can order this product.Having used the screen on location, I can recommend it, since it doesn't need a stand if you have a wall or whatever to lean it against. Not having to bring along a separate stand just lightens the load and adds to the convenience that the screen already provides with it folding down to a relatively compact circle.[...]But I personally fond the issue to be exaggerated - and I don't have a very good personal reputation for handling this kind of challenge. So, if I can quickly master folding the screen, just about anyone else can.The bottom line is that when used by itself, or better yet with a back light or strobe, this screen really enhances portraits and other photographs at a very reasonable price. And dark grey is perhaps the best way to go, since by adjusting the brightness setting of your back light or strobe, one can create a slightly textured background ranging from very dark to nearly white. As usual, B&H is a fast and reliable source for this product that is in high demand.

Needed to do a head shot and make it look like it was shot in a studio setting. Couldn't have been more pleased!
It was easy and extremely portable.
It's a little tricky to fold up, but once you get it, it's easy!
Watched a video on youtube to see how it's done!

Really love this item. Learned about this from David Hobby Strobist DVD and really wanted to get one. I liked the compact size, ease of set-up and the grey mottled texture. One side is light grey with mottled patterns and other side is dark grey. Fire up a flash with colored gel (Rosco gels) and you get that muslin texture look on your background! With it paired with the Rosco gel pack, i can create any color background i want. Perfect for corporate type headshots, half body portraits. It also works for couples and maybe a family of four at most. Used this to shoot portraits of graduating students from my daughter's school and it just works and is perfect. The backdrop opens and folds easily and is very compact. The side though have some crease/folds that don't go away, may need to iron or blow with hair dryer but it's no big deal nor is a deal breaker.

Used this for some corporate headshots and it worked great. It's not big enough for a group obviously. Hard to fold back up but I googled it and found a tutorial and it hasn't been an issue since.

A good portable product. I wasn't crazy about the way it looked when I opened it up, but it actually looks great in the shots I've taken.

Comments about Botero #023 Collapsible Background (5x7') (Dark Grey):
I just received this item. It seems relatively well made. Nothing super durable or super flimsy about it. The fabric is not completely opaque, but dense enough to block most ambient light. One side is roughly medium gray (I haven't measured this) and the other is significantly darker. Both sides are lightly mottled. The metal rim stretches wide enough to pull the fabric taught. I don't expect wrinkles to be much of a problem, especially when shooting with a shallow depth of field.
The backdrop I received measures about 59" x 77.5". This is significantly shorter than the advertised 7' (84"). I'd hoped to simply lean this against the wall for an easy no-stand head and shoulder portrait backdrop. This won't be large enough to accommodate tall guys. I'm disappointed, but will keep the product and try fixing it higher on the wall with gaff tape.

I've done several portrait sessions in non-studio environments with this background and I'm extremely happy with it. The subtle pattern on one of the sides makes the background more interesting. The gray shade can be changed to almost any color by firing a flash with a color gel into it. Highly recommended!

I bought this to use for video shoots. My first time use impressions: Material is semi-transparent, grey on one side and a darker grey on the other. I feel like the material could get snag or ripped easily. I got the grey and as others have mentioned you can tint it with gels on your lights and I thought it would be the most versatile. Setup was quick and easy but you need some kind of support as it will bend without it. I used two light stands and clamps. I also use a small portable steamer to get rid of wrinkles. One man setup can be done in about 10 mintues. I keep these stored in the open postion and only fold them up for transportation so getting rid of wrinkles only takes a few minutes during setup. Supplied storage bag wont last long. Video of talking head looked great.

Very thin material (see through) but is OK provided you don't have a light source behind the background.

Such a useful tool for doing on-the-spot portraits. Once I figured out how to re-fold it and get it back into the bag, I was good to go. Now it goes where my camera goes.
Don't forget, you can pop a flash at this bkg with a colored gel and make it whatever color you want.

Comments about Botero #023 Collapsible Background (5x7') (Dark Grey):
This product is good for quick setup and transport. It is light and folds away to only 24". I use a wall or light stands to hold it up. The color makes for a great background and you can change the shade by adding gels to your light. You can shoot through it for that background glow too. It is good for single full body shots (up to 2 people) and horizontally you can get a group of five for head shots. One side has different shades of gray tone and the other side is darker with a solid gray tone.
