The E39 UVa Filter from Leica is a wise initial investment. It helps protect your valuable investment from dust, moisture and scratches, which can lead to costly repairs. If desired it can be left on the lens at all times for protection. Haze filters provide additional benefits of correction for Ultraviolet(UV) light which can register on film and videotape as a bluish cast and can obscure distant details. Ultraviolet filters allow you to correct for the UV effect to varying degrees.
The UVa filter is helpful when photographing mountain and marine scenes, where increased haze threatens to make your photographs indistinct in color and clarity.
The name Leica is synonymous with top optical quality. The finest photographers in the world all know Leica's reputation for excellence in lens and filter production. Due to the high-quality construction of this filter, with this filter in place, the performance of your lens will not be compromised.

Comments about Leica E39 UVa Filter (Black):
This was bought for my 35mm Summicron and the best thing I can say about it is that it goes unnoticed.
That's all I wanted, extra protection for the front element of this expensive lens that would not have any impact on the photographs.

Comments about Leica E39 UVa Filter (Black):
I bought this filter mainly to protect my Summicron 50mm f2 as I read that the front element tends to scratch easily. Just as anything with the Leica brand, it is built very well and I have no doubts that this filter will serve the purpose that I purchased it for. I cannot think of any cons except that it's pretty expensive for a UV protective filter, but that's what you should be expecting when you purchase Leica.

Comments about Leica E39 UVa Filter (Black):
The UV filter screwed right on the lens just as it should and didn't interfere with lens hood mount. The filter cut the haze, just as it said would, on those long landscape shots.
