The DPS II is a two channel microphone preamplifier that includes continuously variable input impedance, LED input meters, auto microphone/instrument switching, OPL (Output Protection Limiting) flexibility, a 12AX7A tube gain stage and an A/D converter. Flexible V3 (Variable Valve Voicing) delivers both flexibility and consistency in settings and the unit provides a choice of analog and digital outputs.
The microphone preamplifier can accept +20dB peaks while maintaining over 120dB dynamic range and low distortion. An LED input meter monitors the signal level of the input amplifier. Enhancements to the tube stage maintain a classic "warm sound" and add additional tube voicing specifically tailored to vocal, guitar, bass, and acoustic instruments. This allows the DPS II to also function as a DI box.
The enhanced OPL is available to control overshoots and normalize levels before digital clipping occurs. A versatile insert loop on each channel provides access for additional signal processing or direct access to the A/D converter. Separate gain controls on analog and digital outputs allow one to optimize the DPS II for simultaneous applications.
The A/D is front panel adjustable from 44.1 to 96K or it can be synced to ADAT or external word clock (32kHz to 100kHz.) It is possible to patch into any ADAT stream and select which pair of channels (or all) the unit transmits. Digital outputs include S/PDIF, TOSlink or ADAT (front panel selectable). The auto-switching input allows the DPS II rear inputs to stay patched in while using the front panel instrument inputs.

Comments about ART DPSII Preamplifier:
I used the ART DPSII on a vocal session. I tested two microphones using this unit. A Neumann TLM 170, and an AKG 414. We also tested a MXL v69 which is a tube microphone, we did not use this mic with the ART unit. The test was conclusive, although the Neumann and the MXL sounded great, for this session we used the AKG 414 pumped through the ATR DPSII. I used the digital out of the ART so the session was anolog up to the input of my Pro-Tools LE. It worked great and sounded great, I am very happy that I added this unit to my studio.
