The Atlas QR-2 Microphone Stand Base Quick Release System installs between the 7/8" threaded microphone stand tube and round base. The system is intended to provide quick installation and breakdown of microphone stands, by allowing the technician to simply insert the tube into the base.
The ball bearing interconnect system provides a sturdy, secure fit. Technicians must step on the outer ring of the quick release in order to detach the tube from the base; this will also avoid inadvertent detachment during performances. The QR-2 is an ideal solution for touring situations, stage performances, theaters, and is completely compatible with the Atlas MS-10C, MS-10CE, MS-12C and MS microphone stands.

I don't use this like most people do. I have a non-handheld mic with a quick-release at the top and this on at the bottom of the stand. That way I have more options for performance besides dragging the entire mic stand around. The Mic Stand Base Quick Release works perfectly for what I'm wanting.
At first, the extra paint/coating made it impossible to thread, but I was able to fix that by soaking it in coca-cola overnight. If it weren't for that, I would've given it 5 stars.

The quick release works excellently. I actually use it for my on stage performance rather than just for easy storage. The problem I had was getting it to thread into the base. They used way too much black paint so I had to sand it off and use a pipe wrench to get it in. If yours is that tight plan on it being a permanent fixture.
