The Photoflex VCBL4002 Speed Ring allows mounting of a Photoflex Silverdome, Silver HalfDome, Chimera Video Pro, Westcott Video series, or any other manufacturer's heat-resistant rectangular or octagonal softbox to a Lowel Tota light fixture.

The included heavy duty stand adapter removes the weight of the softbox from the Tota fixture, and repositions the center of gravity over your stand, for more stability.

The previous problem of connectors not fitting properly to allow the AC Cable to plug in to the light has been fixed. I am told by Photoflex that they are doing doing 100% inspection of the product and it now fits without issue, as is evident on the unit personally received and checked. The Photoflex customer service is second to none and they stand behind their products. In this economy that is a huge selling point from my perspective!!! KUDOS

    Doesn't fit the Tota Light!!!

I too recently purchased a Lowel Tota Light, a Photoflex 16x22inch SilverDome soft box (FV-SDI), a Photoflex Speed Ring (VC-BL4002) and a PhotoFlex Swivel Mount (AC-ALSWMT) from a large UK retailer (on special order from the US) and, like Tony (below), I bought these on recommendation of Vortex Media's DVD on setting up and lighting interviews (which, like all of the Vortex Media DVD's, is absolutely brilliant none the less!)

However, Photoflex have changed the speedring's design since the DVD was made and now the Lowel Tota Light fits to the Photoflex Speed Ring very badly; the power plug will not fit into the socket because the speedring is in its way; clearly not right...or, as it is starting to appear, this is just how they are – I wish I'd bought Chimera!

It seems you have to first connect the power lead plug into the socket of the Tota, then losely fit it in on the stud before rotating it into position then tightening, it may damage either component leaving you without the ability to insist on a replacement, and the Tota could end up slightly unaligned to boot.

I'm reluctant to send it back to the retailer and requesting a replacement for various reasons, and the replacement could prove to be the same as it seems it's a design imperfection - one set of the speedring's machined screw-holes don't line up exactly with the holes in the arm which has left me less than reassured, but does strengthen my suspicion that this may be the case.

Secondly, again to reiterate what Tony said, the Photoflex Swivel Mount (AC-ALSWMT) isn't necessary anymore; the speedring now comes with a swivel.

Comments about Photoflex Speed Ring for Lowel Tota Light:

We use this for video production, mostly interviews with a small Photoflex softbox attached. Holds the Tota well, easy to assemble, strong and reliable. However, we have 5 of these and everyone has it's own "personality" The machining is different with each--some it's easy to plug in the power cord on the Tota, and some you have to loosen the Tota, plug in the cord and then retighten. I'm really surprised Photoflex hasn't addressed this Q/A problem--otherwise very happy with this product

The brace that holds the tota in place is not quite in the right position so it prevented you from being able to plug in the power cord. Not the end of the world though, I just drilled a few new holes a few mm across and reattached and it works fine. I bought two of these and they both had the same problem.

Comments about Photoflex Speed Ring for Lowel Tota Light:

I have just set it up and can confirm that the socket to receive the Tota's plug is partially blocked by the ring. I can't see how someone would not be bothered by this, and wonder how it escaped attention. I might take a file to the ring's edge to pare it down, but Photoflex should examine this and incorporate such a whittling into the product. One thought of where relief might be found which I have not tried: plug the AC line in before mounting the Tota on the swivel arm. My concern there is that the plug end will be stressed by this.

I bought this on the recommendation of Vortex Media's DVD on setting up and lighting interviews. For others following those instructions, it bears emphasis that this part INCLUDES the swivel assembly which allows you to mount the whole apparatus onto the stand. So, do not buy the swivel arm.

I am using this with the Photoflex small Silverdome and that part fits in nicely and easily. I only wish there were some "click" to reassure me that the wires were not going to suddenly SPROING out if the softbox received a mild nudge.

It's easy to attach the silver dome to the speed ring. The Tota light attaches relatively easily. Unfortunately, the positioning of the mounting bar partially blocks access to the Tota light's electrical socket.

I would recommend this item to anyone who needs to add a softbox with their Tota light. You cant go wrong with this set up!

Have had no trouble with power cord insertion into tota using this speed ring with my photoflex softbox tho granted its close, but does work.A tota plus speedring plus softbox really useful for travel, light weight lighting solution. I use my often on docos and my lightweight kit is kind to my back.tota thru a softbox i think is a much nicer light than redhead thru softbox, plus if no dimmer you can pop in 150w,300w,500w bulbs also for less light.(240v for me, don't know what 110v offers) , only prob' today is they are out of stock so i have to spend more on another brand(less value for money) and it hurts due to exchange rates.

Anyone who is considering purchasing this item should takenote that this fixture cannot be used to mount an Lowel Omnilight fixture. It was not designed to do so (according tothe instructions that came with the product) and there is nopossible way to attach it.Although this product was specifically designed for theLowel Tota light, I was unable to insert the power supplycord into the Tota light because the Photoflex Speed Ringblocked insertion. The item had to be returned for that reason.
