The Cavision AR8558 is an adapter/step up ring; it works with cameras featuring a 58mm lens diameter. This device allows the camcorder's 58mm lens threads to work with an 85mm clamp-on sunshade or matte box. Therefore, this unit steps up from 58mm to 85mm for lens equipment adaptation.

I use this particular step-up ring to move my matte box connection a little further away from the lens mount. I have a top handle on my video camera that would normally be in the way of the operation of the 3x3 glass filters that go with my matte box and this conical step-up ring moves the connection point just far enough to allow the use of the matte box and filters without requiring me to remove the handle. The screw connections are secure and the ring maintains a professional look. Perfect product if you need to step up a 58mm lens mount to an 85mm matte box connection. You can even step up from a smaller lens mount by adding an additional xmm to 58mm step up ring.

I bought this with a Cavision Matte Box 3x3" or 4x4" bellows. It steps up my Canon 28mm, 1.8 lens to the matte box openings and blocks stray light from behind. Solid, no vignetting. I am betting it will work just as well with my soon to be purchased Canon 50mm f1.4 lens.
But I also just leave it on the lens as a lens hood even when I am not using the matte box. If you do this, you will need an 82mm lens cap for protection (I like the Tamron lens caps).
