This product is not a traditional step-down ring in the sense that it doesn't screw on to one threaded opening to provide a smaller threaded opening. It's simply a flexible plastic ring that inserts into an 85mm opening and leaves you with a smaller, 75mm, non-threaded opening. I use this product to close the open space left around the outside of my wide angle video lens adapter - which has no threaded filter ending - when using my 85mm matte box. My matt box has an 85mm opening that clamps down onto a 85mm-to58mm step down ring when attached to my standard video lens. When I remove the matte box and 85mm-to-58mm step-down ring to add on my wide angle adapter, I lose the ability to use an alternate step-down ring to attach my wide angle lens to the matte box. This ARP375 ring almost completely closes the space around my wide angle adapter after sliding on my matte box, meaning I can use my matte box regardless of what lens - standard or wide angle - I need to use for a particular shot.
