A good quality, inexpensive matte paper for printing documents, inserts, etc. Exhibits some curl when printing large images with lots of color. good color rendition, and easy handling/ rapid drying.

My wife wanted some matte paper to print examples of her photo collage work for informal presentation. Since I use Ilford Smooth Gloss for most of my landscape work I ordered their matte paper for her. I was quite surprised by the excellent color saturation and edge definition the paper gave. I'm going to try it out for my own work because it's much easier to look at a print without the reflections that a gloss surface creates. Matte papers often have a slight texture which interferes with image sharpness and apparent color saturation. This paper is totally smooth and without texture which I think is the reason for its sharpness and color saturation.

Having used other Ilford products with good success, I expected the Smooth Heavyweight Matte paper to continue the tradition. With a dye ink Canon iP4700, the recommended setting, Matte Paper, need tweaking to look reasonable. Blacks seem to be decent, but darker shades/colors appear muddy rather than realistic. Other profiles are not better. Adjustments to contrast and intensity have not fixed that. Brighter colors are acceptable. Perhaps the paper works well with pigment ink printers, but be aware that dye inks might be disappointing. I would recommend this paper with caution.

I use this product for greeting cards featuring prints of watercolor paintings. This paper prints bright, pure color, gives you all the contrast you want and the reproduces the nuances of a watercolor painting beautifully. Plus it's two-sided, so if you make a mistake you can use the other side for something else! It is fabulous.

I've used this paper in my HP Inkjet for B&W photos I've been working on and it's great. The matte finish gives a really nice almost 3-d effect to dark areas. The quality of the print is a real fine art finish.
