I used this lens on an Officer Installation ceremonies where flash photography was not allowed. I took the shots about 80 feet away from the subjects inside the building and I was surprised how clear the pictures. I used it on a Canon 5D Mark II. Remarkable reach and fast focusing.

I use this lens as a replacement for a 17-85 and a 70-300 both 4-5.6. The versatility of the wide range of focal lengths makes it a great lens for shooting outdoor activities, landscapes and group activities. It's a bit heavy for hiking or sightseeing but worth the additional weight for the convenience of a single lens over having to carry and change lens. The slide type of lens is easy to use but may cause focusing problems if allowed to creep. I like the friction lock that prohibits the lens from extending when carrying the lens. I do have a slight concern about dust particles entering the body from the vacuum created when the lens is zoomed, however, I believe that with this quality of lens that issue should be too much of a problem. The 3.5 gives me a 0.5 stop advantage at 28. This lens was a gift that I requested.

This lens can be used for travel where bulk is an issue, inside, outside for landscape, etc everywhere! I have missed many a picture while switching between 28-135 to 10-22 or to 70-200. It is great to have the entire range in one lens. It is heavy but all I need to do is purchase a new shoulder strap.

I am very pleased with the sharpness of the pictures even without using the IS selector of the lens. The color correctness is also very impressive compared to conventional Canon lens.

If you want great technical photos the weight and the price should not stop you from purchasing this outstanding very sturdy cascade of superior glass and lightning fast focus. I highly recommend this Canon product. Thanks Canon Camera!

This is the most useful lens, the focal length covers almost every situation, it produces high quality pictures . IS works faultlessly. The only complain is its weight, It is pretty heavy . If you are looking for one lens fit all then GO FOR IT.

Purchased this lens for an extra lens for wildlife photography as one never knows how close or far they might be. It was used on my second camera while I had 100-400 on the other camera. I also wanted a lens for both people and landscape!
This is a superb lens and one only needs the 28-300 if travelling throughout cities, rural areas so you are ever ready for people or landscape. This is a Must Have lens for Canon shooters!

in particular occasion is useful to have a lens that permit you to do a portrait, or to take a landscape picture or sometimes a microcosm, with this lens i can do everything with a good quality, without to have my 25 kg photographic bag, just my camera with this lens.

If you ever want to own only one lens - this is it. This is my second lens (gave away my older one) and although one needs to do some heavy weightlifting - it is worth the effort. Great quality at all focal lengths (a little soft on 300 mm), sturdy and multipurpose this lens is built for every environment, including some harsh dusty safari conditions.

I'm Video producer and i'm very happy with this Lens, so i don't need to change everytime the lenses. For the most situations is the aperture of 5.6 enough.

All my life I have dreamed of being a Free Lanse photographer. I have taken may thousands of photos. Tried to sell them with a continued response of Too much artifacting & too much noise. I bought a Top of the Line camera & was sooo disapointed to get the same results Too much artifacting & noise. Until I sent an e-mail out to one of the guys on NAPP. He told me if I wanted to compete with the PROS I had to use top of the line lenses like they were using.
How much is a dream worth?
It didn't take me long to order my new L-series Lens. I can really see the difference.
I chose a lense that I thought could give me the most versitility, in what I like to shoot. 28mm - 300mm.

Using this for landscapes, wildlife, the occasional portrait. It's built solid! Love the push/pull zoom on it, especially setting the tension to where the lens won't flop to zoom from gravity. Fast focus even in low light. Weighs double than the lens it replaced, but the quality is outstanding. Great piece of glass.
