The TUBE ULTRAGAIN MIC200 from Behringer is a single channel, low voltage plate tube based microphone/instrument preamplifier, housed in a compact, desktop enclosure. With switchable phantom power available, the unit will work with all types of microphones. Additionally, the preamp features a 20dB pad, phase reverse switch, low-cut filter and balanced inputs and outputs. When used as a high-end DI-box, the preamp provides outstanding signal integrity.
The preamp has 2 interesting features, the first being the inclusion of flexible preamp modeling. This allows the user to optimize recordings by selecting one of the 16 preamp settings that matches their needs, be it for vocals, or acoustic and electric guitars, bass guitars, keyboards, drums and more. The second is an integrated limiter that prevents distortion on the output of the MIC200. Various fixed limiter settings are available within some of the 16 preamp models.

Comments about Behringer MIC200 - TUBE ULTRAGAIN Preamp:
I once bought the ART preamp and, quite frankly, it made everything distorted and flat, and was a completely useless piece of gear. For years I went without using a preamp when recording. Having been familiar with not-so-great Behringer products, I assumed this would be just a cheap, pale immitation of the ART. A friend of mine convinced me to borrow his and I'm glad he did. I've since bought two of my own. It livens and warms up any condenser and the expanded modeling feature will spoil you - you'll never want to be without iit. It seems Behringer has really stepped up and improved their products. Suggestion: the tube needs to be plenty warm for it to give a consistent level. Leave it on for at least 20 minutes before using.

Comments about Behringer MIC200 - TUBE ULTRAGAIN Preamp:
Even with nothing hooked to it this thing is very noisy with hiss, static pops and crackles. It sounds just like you are listening to a AM broadcast station in a lightning storm!
I bought this to simply supply phantom power for a condenser Mic and this thing is so noisy I'm not sure I could holler loud enough to get over all the noise this thing makes.
There is no option to rate this a ZERO so I'm stuck giving it 1 star.

Comments about Behringer MIC200 - TUBE ULTRAGAIN Preamp:
All I really needed was a volume control for a head mic. At [$], this puppy fit the bill and then some (The metal box (chassis) is worth at least that. I'm not sure about the added "warmth" (personally I wish it was transistorized instead of "tube'd)... But it has added some punch to the vocals in addition to control. All in all, built like a tank.

I just got the MIC200 to use for recording and it not only boosts the input signal but warms my vocals up real nice and gives my guitar that classic tube sound.Great little preamp for the money!
