Velbon's EL Carmagne series responds to the demands for a lightweight durable tripod, offering superior strength and specifications while being one third lighter than their conventional aluminum counterparts. Carbon fiber is also more resilient to temperature changes.
These durable and versatile tripods have 3-positions of leg spread for normal, semi-low and full-low angle shooting, and the split rapid center column detaches appropriately to access the full range of height.
Included are also an accessory hook and a "stone bag" (tripod apron), which can be used to add stability to the tripod.

Comments about Velbon EL Carmagne 530 with PH-250B 3-Way Panhead:
The head that comes with this pod weighs nearly a pound and it's removable. If you remove that head and put on a light ball head you've got a 3# tripod. The thread is 1/4" not 3/8"
Not a bad tripod for the money. BTW, the riser tube (boom) is aluminum rather than carbon.

Comments about Velbon EL Carmagne 530 with PH-250B 3-Way Panhead:
This is just what I wanted - Light, steady, well made.
The legs spread for low macro work which is great. However, I can't use that feature until I can unscrew the split column. Otherwise, I would have given it 5 stars.

Comments about Velbon EL Carmagne 530 with PH-250B 3-Way Panhead:
Light, durable, fills all my needs. The only thing that is a draw-back is the head. I prefer a ball-head to a flat head for quickness in movement.

Comments about Velbon EL Carmagne 530 with PH-250B 3-Way Panhead:
a pro feature, but it solved several problems that my previous tripod posed...it was very difficult to get into a vertical position, the feet kept unscrewing, and the tripod gead kept separating...for less than i paid for my induro..i've solved the problems

Comments about Velbon EL Carmagne 530 with PH-250B 3-Way Panhead:
very sturdy and lightweight, a little on the short side (I'm 6'2") and contrary to whats mentioned in the other reviews, the head can be removed (I replaced mine with a manfrotto ball head w/ quick release)

Comments about Velbon EL Carmagne 530 with PH-250B 3-Way Panhead:
I am a semi-pro and mainly use a Manfrotto Neotech with a Manfrotto 322RC2 which by the way is the fastest, easiest and most highly adjustable tripod going....but is very heavy! For on the run and hiking the Velbron El Carmagne 530 rocks! Trust me you will appreciate it's sturdy well built design. As mention above it lacks the ability to change heads but that why you need a few tripods, just like you need several bags! It is expensive...but it's not a Gitzo. I also use it for video shooting to with my 5D Mark II...it suffices.
I will end with B&H is IMO the top online place to buy!

I use it with my Canon 40D, it's light weight and that neans a lot when you carry a 40D with a 70-200mm lens. It's nice and strong as well.

Comments about Velbon EL Carmagne 530 with PH-250B 3-Way Panhead:
I bought this tripod in connection with the purchase of a Lowepro Trekker AW II backpack so I could take my gear and tripod hiking. The tripod is lightweight, yet sturdy -- good for hiking. Also, because it's carbon fiber, you don't have to worry about water, (I've set this up in slow-moving, stagnant streams for some shots). The pan & tilt head has a quality movement. If you're after a pan & tilt lighweight tripod that can handle some weight, this one does a fine job. The main con for this item is it has a fixed head (can't be swapped for a quick release or a ball mount). Also, height on this tripod may be an issue as to get it eye level, requires a substantial portion of the column be raised above the intersection of the 3 legs. This can decrease stability, but I haven't found it to be much an issue. Overall, I give this a 4 out of 5. It's pricey, but built solid and light enough to carry around with you while hiking without killing you. If you're mainly indoors or don't mind a tripod with some extra heft, I'd go with something else.
