After several years of absence, Sunpak re-enters the monolight flash market in a big way. The Sunpak Platinum Plus 1000 Watt/Second Monolight allows step-less power adjustment down to 1/32 of full power. It features a 250 watt modeling light, flash confirmation and 4.5 second recycle time @ full power.
- Includes a built-in optical slave, which will trigger this unit when it "sees" the flash from another unit.
- A manual test button allows flash confirmation.
- Accessories expected include a filter holder, snoot, grid softbox, and soft flood reflector.

Great deal, excellent power 1000ws fast charging time, Power is even higher about 10%, than marked 1000ws, however new unit had lower full power and power reducer problems in the beginning of use (???), I think is a matter of capacitors, they have to be recharged and charged again many times. Now is just perfect. I am considering to buy another one to replace 2nd ms4000.

1000 W/S for $350, that sounded as a great deal and I gottwo to replace my aging 900 W/S US made units. So here theyare: good looking, quite bulky and apparently simple tooperate. Apparently only? Yes because I quickly found outthe light reducer markers (1/2, 1/4 etc...) were notaccurate when measured with the light meter. Then comparingthem to the older units was a worse surprise: the fulloutput was 1 f/stop lower on the Sunpak 1000!!!! I couldstill make use of them, but there was no great deal anymore.
Problems Encountered: Not accurate and output not up to an expected 1000 w/s,reflector too soft and easy to bend, bulky.
