It will give you highest quality in DVD Video Playback. Will also play DVD Audio and SACD a format you seldom see available in one unit.
For the CD part it has Direct Digital Path, with 192 KHZ / 24 Bit audio digital to analog converter.

Key Features

• Progressive Scanning

For outstanding reproduction of film material. Progressive scanning (480P) is a method of creating a high-density video signal that doubles the scan lines of a conventional interlaced signal (480I) to create a noticeably sharper picture. The 480P image offers higher picture resolution and eliminates bothersome motion artifacts - the jagged edges on moving objects that are typical of a converted interlaced signal.

• Progressive Video Processor

Converts film source signals to 480P output for reproduction of recorded information that is more faithful to original; can convert interlaced to progressive scanning for exceptionally accurate 480P signal.

• HDMI (High Definition Multimedia Interface)

Includes a rear-panel HDMI (High Definition Multimedia Interface) connection that delivers digital video information to modern HD display devices without the degradation caused by additional circuitry.

• iLink (IEEE 1394) DV Out

Includes two iLink (IEEE 1394) connections for digital output of high resolution 5.1-channel audio signals. When combined with a compatible receiver, such as the Onkyo TX-NR1000, this ability delivers the ultimate in sound reproduction and simplifies bass management duties, all over a single cable. Additionally, there are 7.1-channel analog outputs for consumers wishing to take advantage of the player's high quality internal decoding circuitry

• Adjustable Gamma

Choose from three different gamma settings to bring out detail in dark scenes. The settings are dependent upon the DVD disc's source material and the environment in which you are viewing.

• 4:3 Shrink Function

Even though the DVD-RP91 outputs a 480P signal formatted for 16:9 widescreen viewing, it can correctly display a 4:3 image on a 16:9 screen, using the original scaling algorithm of a DVD disc designed for 4:3 viewing.

• Cinema Mode

Improves picture quality in certain viewing conditions and lessens the glare typical of direct-view TV screens. The result is that the image is gentler to the eyes. Also improves the visibility of details in dark scenes by adjusting the picture contrast.

• Component Video Output

Allows you to maintain the highest possible signal, by keeping the Y, Pb, Pr signals in their original form.

• Frame Advance

Gives you more control in allowing you to stop the action. Advance Forward or Reverse: one noiseless still frame at a time.

• Monitor Select

Allows for connection to a standard TV, CRT Projector, LCD Projector or a Projection TV.

• Built-In Dolby Digital and DTS Decoder

Delivers crisp theater-like sound using six discrete channels of audio. Individual channels are provided for left front, center, right front, left surround, right surround and subwoofer. And it lets you control speaker configuration, delay time, master volume and speaker level control.

• Dialogue Enhancer

Increasing the center channel eliminates the sometimes difficult to hear dialogue encoded thereon, particularly when it is overwhelmed by louder sounds on other channels.

• Audio Only Function

If you want to experience the ultimate timbre and nuance of DVD-Audio sound, you can simply turn off the video signal. This helps minimize interference between video and audio circuitry, optimizing the unit's inherent audio characteristics and letting you enjoy flowing sound, expensive effects and extremely pure musical reproduction.

• Chapter Preview

When you have only watched part of a movie, this feature helps you refresh your memory when viewing it again. Shows you the first three seconds of each previously viewed chapter, then proceeds with normal play once it reaches the position where you left off.

• Hi-Speed Smooth Motion Scan

Search forward or reverse with crystal clear quality in 5 different speeds, ranging from slow motion up to an incredible 100x the normal speed. While locating desired locations on a disc and when scanning at the inital forward setting, you can hear the soundtrack.
