Zeiss' 8x42 Victory T* FL binocular, the classic birder's configuration, is available in two colors and is the epitome of optical excellence. From any measurement of greatness it succeeds admirably, a tool bereft of weakness which becomes so intuitive with use as to functionally disappear from the user's mindset. This should be the goal of any binocular-to be the invisible conduit to great viewing of the subject.
The optics within the 8x42 Victory T* FL binocular were created with elements of abnormal partial dispersion, a chunk of gobbledygook easily translating to the observer as the theoretical limit of razor sharp imagery free of color shift or chromatic aberration, the dreaded bane of bargain binoculars. When focusing upon a flat subject, the image is as sharp at the edges of the enormous viewing field as it is at the center. The broad focusing range goes from end to end in just a single rotation of the center focus dial, which also houses the dioptric correction.
The 8x42 Victory T* FL, like all ultra-premium European crafted binoculars, is not for the frugally minded. It is instead a product intentionally designed to deliver awe-inspiring optical and mechanical brilliance, and for many the lifetime of expected performance from such a device quickly amortizes its high initial investment.

Comments about Zeiss 8x42 Victory T* FL Binocular (Black):
This is the absolute best birding glass I have ever seen in 40+ years in the field! I've owned mine for 5 years or so. The have the best light gathering ability I've ever seen in binocs, and I've seen and owned some really expensive glasses in my time. I bought these from B&H in 2004 and have relegated everything else to the "spares, friends, and backups drawer. These are never apart from my body. Th travel/storage attache, complete with cleaning kit, straps, and field case are over the top.
One thing I rarely see mention in glass reviews is the color reproduction ability. In a field where identification and misidentification is often made by subtle differences in color between two otherwise identical looking birds, this performance measure can not be understated. This glass has no equal in this department.
On the more mundane side, these are the perfect balance between weight, magnification, water tightness, and anything else important to a field observer. This glass has no equal in the nature observation world. Do you sleep with yours? Of course, if I lost them I would be immediately on the phone to B&H to get a replacement pair overnighted to wherever I happened to be.
Happy birdin', ya'll, from Savannah, GA!

Comments about Zeiss 8x42 Victory T* FL Binocular (Black):
I have used fine optics for nearly two decades and in my vast experience the Zeiss 8x42T*FL is by far the best 8x ROOF prism binocular available today.
Its weight, balance and ergonomics are superb. Above all the image quality with ZERO chromatic aberration is breathtaking.
Due to the Abbe Koening prisms, the image is extraordinarily BRIGHT.
The 8x42 is the closest one can get to a 3D (3-dimensional) image in a binocular (without going to a PORRO prism model)...WELL DONE ZEISS.

These are a wonderful pair of binos - excellent magnification and image quality. They are not too heavy and have a good feel in the hand. Also easy to use and helpful attached lens caps. I am so pleased with this purchase.
