Until 2002, Tele Vue's Gibraltar tripods accomplished their horizontal motion by using a 1.5" diameter bearing post in a plastic bushing pressed into the tripod head casting. The current model Gibraltars, however, utilize a bearing system built into the horizontal plate of the Tele-Pod head. The new system has several advantages such as adjustable tension, eliminating the risk of accidentally removing the head from the tripod and a better compatiblity with the Sky Tour. This Gibraltar Upgrade Kit allows previous-generation Gibraltar tripods to be used with the newer Tele-Pod telescope mount head.
