You cannot adjust the width of the cross bar in small increments. Instead, it has 3 sections, and you can remove one of the sections to make it shorter. This is bad, because the width of my background is just longer than 2 sections, yet I don't have space for all 3 sections.
I hate the mechanism for hooking up the 3 sections together. The screws are so flimsy, I was afraid that I would strip it using the included hex driver.
Other than that, it's surprisingly small and light, which is good for photographers on the move, and also for storage. The compromise is stability. The two stands bend significantly after I hung up the background. But in the end, it works well for my purpose. I can fit it easily into the trunk of my car, and even used it as a normal light stand, since it's much smaller than my other stands.
The bag is excellent, as it has separate compartments for storing the 2 stands and cross bar so that they don't scratch each others on the move. There's also a nifty little pocket for storing small studio things like background clips.

I'm an aspiring photographer, shooting mainly for friends and family. I get the odd professional paid gig and bought this to have at the ready. Set up was very easy and intutive; fortunately so since no instructions came w/ the stand. I did find PDFs on Interfit's site.
I found the piece to be solid enough for easy set up and take down, but probably not so much for hanging a full roll of background paper. I'm using a 5' x 36' roll of seamless white. The carrying bag is very convenient and also looks very sturdy.
I would recommend this to others; it's a great stand for a very good price.

I use this for taking photographs in my home. I don't have a lot of space so the fact that this backdrop support is very easy to assemble makes it easy to also take apart and put away.

So far -- I've only had this backdrop support for a week, I'm liking this product a lot. For such a low price I didn't think I'd get a product I was so happy with but I did. The system is easy to put together and very light. That makes it easy to position in a room (in my case, my home studio) and to adjust -- from very tall and wide to quite narrow. Even though it's so light it hasn't had any problem supporting my very heavy roll of back drop paper.

I am giving this 4 stars because for the price you do get 2 light stands that are sturdy enough to use with an off camera flash, and a decent carrying case.
This stand is too light weight to use safely with seamless paper. I cut a roll down to 8' to try with it, but it was not sturdy enough.
However it is sturdy enough to use with a lighter weight backdrop. I ended up building my own backdrop stand, which used the cross bar that was included with the kit.
If you want to support heavier backdrops get a better stand. For something portable or for a hobby this may be all you need.

This system is quick and easy to setup. After opening the package for the first time I had it setup in less than 2 minutes with out instructions. In my "Cons" section I choose Flimsy, but, I ment to say it isn't heavy duty. It would work great for someone who needs a background once and a while.

Yep, this is the cheapest stand you can get and it shows. With three segments together, the centre bows downwards. The support stands are VERY flimsy and need to be sandbagged. Still, it gets the job done... providing nobody bumps into it or you don't have a fan on.

I wanted a simple and cheap (inexpensive) way to support seamless paper when taking pictures of my woodturnings.
This system works perfect for me. There are 3 sections to the cross bar. 2 sections provided plenty of length for my roll of seamless paper. The two sections were plenty sturdy but I don't know if 3 sections would be as sturdy.
The height of the stand is more than I need with my 8' ceilings. There was a 3 height extension I didn't use so maybe the support would not be so sturdy if fully extended.
The support was very sturdy and I was never concerned with the support.
Using a heavier background, wider background, taller background or outside with some small wind might overcome the stand.
The case makes storing the stand quick and easy.
My previous process involved ladders and clamps and a bit of hope. That is all a thing of the past now.

I bought this backdrop to use with 60" backdrops. Very sturdy for a small compact backdrop. It comes with a nice bag for travel.

The system is currently supporting my 8x8 Reflecmedia Deskshoot background 3 pairs of jeans 2 sweaters and a winter jacket (I live & shoot in my small apartment in Jersey). It helps the balance and prevents a sag in the middle if you place the 3 pair of jeans and 1 sweater at one end and the jacket and sweater at the other end. I "be" a smart Alpha male kinda dude so the assembly be nuttin. Seriously; you can't go wrong with this system unless you plan to use it for a little freaky bondage scenario (Hey I am a bachelor with a camera).

I am a part time professional and do most of my shooting outdoors, so I am slowly wading into studio work. Honestly I bought it for the price. It's a little on the lightweight side, but a couple of sand bags can fix that. The bag is nice and it assembles fine. It serves it's purpose and you can't beat the price. I recommend this backdrop support system for anyone who needs to fit a small space (it comes with three bars for the crossbar but you can just use two) or isn't ready to shell out for a more professional kit. If you are a professional studio photographer or have aspirations of being one you will want a more expensive kit. However for me, a blogger and part time professional this is perfect.

This is a very easy to use background support. Set-up takes less than 5 mins. I am using it for a heavy duty green screen with rod pocket and this product works perfectly. I can see this working with just about any type of backdrop within the size range of this set-up. When opened to full height, it is not quite as sturdy as I expected and the legs MUST be kept wide open to keep the whole thing from turning over. Overall though, for the price, this is an excellent system, very lightweight and easy to transport. The bag is a plus.

This is the second Interfit background support system I have purchased. I use one for photography and this one for video production. This is a nice system, same as the other I own and with proper care will last.

This is a good product. It is a great value for the price. It would be best to use sand bags with this unit; but, I didn't have them and the unit was very stable and didn't move after the muslin was secured.

I use this to hold my Green Screen background. It makes it so easy to take the screen from place to place and being able to set it up in just a very short time. I have read in some other reviews of this product about it being poorly made. I do not find this to be the case at all. It is well made and does it's job well.

Nice for the price. Holds the rolls of background paper I have just fine. Not super sturdy, but portable enough and I trust it for my basic small studio setup...good value and the carrying bag make it easy to store away.

For the first time in my life i used a studio to photograph a friend of mine, i got so into the backdrops that i decided to get my own backdrop support and backdrops. But the Background Support System by Interfit was not a rather good choice. Yes it was cheap, but that did not make it great. The supports were very light and shook at any touch, they also fell and were not very stable. Overall, i would go for another support that with thicker bars. I guess i should've thought about it in the first place.
