The Sony ECM-CS10 is a unidirectional stereo clip on microphone designed for capturing conferences, meetings, lectures, performances and stereo ambient recording. The capsule houses 2 omnidirectional elements allowing even signal response at the direct and off-axis sections of each capsule. An integrated 2-way power supply allows plug-in power from select Sony or Aiwa recorders. An integrated stand allows mounting when capturing audio in meetings and conferences. An oxygen-free copper litz cable is terminated with an L shaped 3.4mm stereo mini cable.
Note! Requires Sony plug-in power and will not work with third party mini connections.

I just received the microphone and tested it with a Sony digital recorder I use. It captured great sound, and will be using it to record a seminar this weekend. As a studio engineer, I plan on using this microphone for many applications in professional audio recording. I also plan to use it with a Mini DV Camcorder. It would be helpful if it had a carrying case, that is the only negative I could think of.

I bought this thinking I would would use it as a lapel mic for recording interviews, but found it rather inappropriate for such usage. Its sturdy, stiff cord tends to be an unusually efficient conductor of noise. The cord needs to be taped down or put under a collar and run around the neck to effectively insulate unwanted noise from traveling along the cord. For video applications, trying to hide this mic where it won't be seen is extremely problematic due to high extraneous noise pickup, and although it's listed as omnidirectional, the pickup characteristics don't seem to lend themselves to concealed use. This mic seems to work best when used in a free-standing application where there's little or no cord movement. For interview purposes, far better results are obtained from a mono lavalier mic.

Comments about Sony ECM-CS10 Stereo Lavalier Microphone:
This mic is bigger than I expected it to be. I bought it for use with one of the new SONY digital handheld recorders with plugin power, and it sounds almost as good as the built-in mics of the recorder. I also like the quality cloth covered type cord.
However the attempt at a clip to hold the mic is not very good. In its need to be an all purpose 'stand' the thing is just bulky and the attachment to the mic doesn't appear to be very solid.
One thing really lacking is either an included or built-in wind filter. These are almost impossible to use outdoors without one.

Comments about Sony ECM-CS10 Stereo Lavalier Microphone:
They say this is a good mic for recording meetings, but I found it does not pick up at any distance. Good for lapel mic but not meeting mic.
My digital micro recorder works much better on its own, but I was hopeing to get rid of the background noise. I will stick with the micro on its own. Also dissappointed it did not come with the battery box.

Comments about Sony ECM-CS10 Stereo Lavalier Microphone:
I use to worry about battery failure with other lavaliere mics under $30. That is why I picked up the ECM-CS10.
The Sony ECM-CS10 is used for extended videotaped deposition interviews with my sound mixer. I run the mic to an XLR adapter and then into an audio mixer and adjust the sound from there before feeding into my video camera. Great for long interviews. I never have to worry if the battery is getting weak or failing. I just pick up my camera gear and take off for the job.
I like the feel and the touch of the braided cloth cable which also helps reduce some noise if the cable is touched. The swivel tie-clip is good because unlike metal clips it does not snag clothing if accidently pulled when people forget they are wearing them. The clip also has two legs that slide down to offer a stable base for using the mic as a table mic vs. a lapel mic. The L-shaped plug helps reduce accidental disconnects as well.
The sound quality seems to be fine and comparable to other mics in this price range.
Two, not so great things. 1st the length of the cord at 1 meter is just too short. It needs to be longer (5-6 ft). 2nd the mic should have been black not silver to minimize its presence during a vide shoot.
I recommend you give the Sony ECM-CS10 a try if you are looking for an inexpensive lavaliere mic when you don't want to worry about batteries.

Comments about Sony ECM-CS10 Stereo Lavalier Microphone:
I use this product for video/audio for my job -- specifically with our flipcam video production. I like the quality of sound that this mic has. Even when the mic sits lower on a subjects shirt or gets moved around, it still picks up great quality audio. My only complaint is the length of the cord. I need to be close to my subject to use the mic.

Comments about Sony ECM-CS10 Stereo Lavalier Microphone:
You get what you pay for with this mic. It's a decent backup but it's a condenser lav so when recording outdoors there is a constant ambient fluctuation and peaking of vocals. I use this as a backup mic. Also, it's a bulky head that looks very obvious on your subjects.

I do location video work.
This mic works really well with my wireless system and my mp3 recorder.
It is nice to have a mic that will record stereo on my mp3 recorder.
Most Lanaliers are mono.
Would be nice if it came with wind screen.

Comments about Sony ECM-CS10 Stereo Lavalier Microphone:
So far I've used it only few times. No complains. If you really want to use it as a lavalier think twice. It is big and heavy comparing to professional grade lavaliers plus its silver color not easy to hide. Not sure why Sony made it stereo if supposedly its designed to be used for interviews if it is a lavalier. Other than that does a good job for an under $50.00 mic.

I am using it with ICD SX57 dig recorder to record messages from my lapel and it is just great whenit comes to sensitivity and clarity. For this type of application I would highly recomend it, also works great as a table top mic using the little built in "legs"

Comments about Sony ECM-CS10 Stereo Lavalier Microphone:
This mic sounds very good but it's of absolutely no use for weddings. The cord is way too thick and rigid and the mic its self is quite big and heavy. The thick rigid cord is the worst part for me. Great for placing on a table but no good for clipping onto a groom. I'm going to try the Olympus ME-15 tie clip microphone.[...]

This is an excellent accessory for the ICDUX80 DIGITAL VOICE RECORDER - 2GB. I have used it to help archive conversations with several older relatives as I work through my family's history. It produces a very nice quality sound with the aforementioned recorder.
(I would be even happier if it came with a case!)

Made in Japan & No battery needed
Highs freq are a bit too much
and lows freq are not that deep.
But its very good for recording
with your mp3 etc. no distortions.
I use it for live recordings.
Be carefull with the mic mount there is little slot made for it. It snaps in to that.

I am keeping it only because sometimes it is inconvenient to record on the build-in mic.
