Comments about Alesis MULTIMIX 8 USB - 8 Channel Recording/Sound Reinforcement Mixer with USB I/O and Internal Effects Processor:
This mixer is very good for small time recording, those just getting into recording. It is a great price for four full mic pre-amps and a two channel recording interface. You also use it for small live sound applications.

Comments about Alesis MULTIMIX 8 USB - 8 Channel Recording/Sound Reinforcement Mixer with USB I/O and Internal Effects Processor:
I was looking for the cheapest mixer with a USB interface to record audio into Soundtrack Pro on Mac OS X. I unboxed it, plugged in the power, hooked up a mic and pluged in the USB. I opened Soundtrack and selected a track with this mixer. Records great.
I have no use for the included software as you may not either. Also works pretty much the same with Audition on Windows XP.
I own 2 of these now and use them for Radio Spots and Voice Overs. Occasionally on OS X the audio on the computer gets static and needs to be unplugged and re-plugged in. Can get annoying.

Comments about Alesis MULTIMIX 8 USB - 8 Channel Recording/Sound Reinforcement Mixer with USB I/O and Internal Effects Processor:
I use this mixer to record audio for my podcast. It works great with Linux and allows me to record multiple mics right into a stereo channel on Audacity. It bug me that what I hear in the headphone out isn't exactly the same as what I get out of the USB output, but trial and error helps smooth that out.
It also has a lot of background hum that could be my mics or just the mixer, but Audacity can take that right out with Noise Removal, so it's no big deal in the end.

Comments about Alesis MULTIMIX 8 USB - 8 Channel Recording/Sound Reinforcement Mixer with USB I/O and Internal Effects Processor:
My main purpose for getting this mixer was to have a semi-portable mixer that would allow me to travel with a few mikes and record on my laptop.
The mixer works GREAT. The CubeBase software on the otherhand totally screwed up my computer. When installed my computer would automatically boot Windows Media Player every few seconds and I couldn't type anything. It took about 4 hours to get my laptop functioning again and that involved trying multiple restore points.
Once I finally got rid of all the software my computer worked fine and just to make sure that it was this software that created the problem I tried to install it again. Same problem.
Then I tried to install it on a different computer and it still caused the same thing. So beware of the software because there is no real support from Stienberg for the CubeBase.
