The Sigma 105mm f/2.8 EX DG macro lens delivers superb, distortion-free images throughout its broad focus range, from infinity telephoto to lifesize (1:1) macro, as close as 12.2" without accessories. Its non-rotating front lens group makes it easier to work with polarizing filters. A focus limiter helps divide the broad focus range into more manageable chunks.
The "focus-free" mechanical design allows the lens to autofocus without any interference from the manual focus ring, making it easy to hold the lens without affecting the speed or normal operation of the autofocus function. Rugged mechanical construction also makes it durable enough for even the heaviest use required by professional photographers. An ideal lens for a wide variety of applications from nature photography to portraiture.
The improved DG lens design for this lens corrects for various aberrations. This macro lens is specially coated to get the best color balance whilst cutting down on ghosting caused by reflections from the digital image sensor. The lens provides the utmost correction against lateral chromatic aberration which is a serious problem for digital SLR cameras.

Comments about Sigma Telephoto 105mm f/2.8 EX DG Macro Autofocus Lens for Pentax FA:
bought this lens several years ago to do some outdoor macro work shooting wildflowers and also to use as a portrait lens someday. My first day out I was walking around this duck pond on the jogging track which was paved. I had my camera slung over my shoulder when to my horror I felt something heavy falling down my leg and hitting the pavement with a 'clink' sound. The lens hood had a tiny scratch and there was a small crack in the d.o.f.window. My camera and lens are still working good and you can bet I make sure my camera strap is secured.

Amazing clarity. Easy to use. A little heavy to hand hold for macro work but perfect for portraiture.

Comments about Sigma Telephoto 105mm f/2.8 EX DG Macro Autofocus Lens for Pentax FA:
I first bought this lens about 4 years ago to do portraits. I soon sold it as I upgraded my portrait lens. I should have never done that. It was awesome for that.
Recently I've been getting into macro photography and this is a great lens for that.
And I'm never gonna sell it again!!!

Comments about Sigma Telephoto 105mm f/2.8 EX DG Macro Autofocus Lens for Pentax FA:
I have only owned this lens for several days now and my first impression is "wow". Very fast – and impressive sharpness even with large aperture settings. Excellent bokeh, minimal chromatic aberrations, beautiful colors, very pleasing images.
My primary reason for purchasing this was for macro work but I am quickly seeing its strengths as a portrait lens.
As others have said, it does extend quite a bit as it approaches 1:1. This can be a little freaky at first, but it still leaves a good few inches between you and the subject – enough to adequately light it (unlike with a 50mm or 35mm macro lens).
I also agree that the whole manual/auto focus switching thing is a little odd and inconvenient but I am getting used to it quickly enough. Personally, I have found it to perform fairly well in autofocus mode (so far) – and its focus ring provides comfortable, smooth and excellent manual focus.

Comments about Sigma Telephoto 105mm f/2.8 EX DG Macro Autofocus Lens for Pentax FA:
I brought this lens to use with my K20D. It was my first macro lens and I'm loving the wonderful sharp images it's producing. Build quality is excellent. Zoom/Focus Ring is nice and smooth, although focusing can hunt in AF mode...I suggest using MF as much as possible.

Comments about Sigma Telephoto 105mm f/2.8 EX DG Macro Autofocus Lens for Pentax FA:
I use this lens with a Pentax K20D and it's really nice to make macro photos !
Very sharp lens; AF is fast enough although it is not HSM; not too heavy, so very easy to walk a long time carrying it.
I think the hood is not so easy to put on the front of the lens because it is not a bayonet but a screw system.
In conclusion, a very good quality/price ratio !

Comments about Sigma Telephoto 105mm f/2.8 EX DG Macro Autofocus Lens for Pentax FA:
Great lens at great price for macro photography. Very sharp, wonderful bokeh, at f/2.8 it's possible to throw a background completely out of focus. Could be used for other types of photography- can be of great depth of field at f/11 and higher. Manual focus works perfectly, auto focus not so great in low-light situations. Check the full review and tests on Photozone. I suggest using this lens with a good tripod or a bean bag, or at least at high shutter speeds, because it's pretty long- 105mm(158mm equivalent), so it can be very tricky to make sharp images without those things.
