Manfrotto 175F Justin Spring Clamp with Flash Shoe
This is a Manfrotto 175F Justin Spring Clamp which clamps onto pipes up to 1.6" in diameter, or stands or arms that have a 5/8 in top, or 3/8 in thread. The 0.7 lb clamp also features a cold flash swivel shoe for attaching a shoe-mount flash.

Based on earlier reviews I was a little hesitant about purchasing this item but I'm glad I did. I read that it required quite a bit of force to get Nikon's SB-900 to slide into the cold shoe. Manfrotto apparently changed the design of the cold shoe. My SB-900 slid into place with about the same amount of light pressure as required for mounting a SB-800.

I bought this clamp because I saw many videos, with Professional photographers using them. Every time that I saw them clamping the device, I thought: "those guys are in fact all very weak! Why are they shaking so much when pressing it? Why are they using both hands?" But now I realize that the spring is REALLY, REALLY strong. I mean, unnecessarily strong. You could hold a car with that spring, and it would not fall. :o) Just to get you an idea, it the tip of the clamp it comes with 4 small rubbers for adding some protection. These rubbers where totally smashed against each other right out of the box. This is for small and light flashes. IMHO the spring is not the best quality and too strong. Well… Other than that, a very useful device. I gave it 3 stars, just because it is hard to fix it, but other than that, I am satisfied.

You'll see a lot of photographers use these... there's a reason, they're awesome! I use them primarily with speedlites with battery packs. The jaw holds the pack, the mount is adjustable for the speedlite, it's a great set up.

Feels well built and gets the job done.
Would prefer if there was a lock for the shoe, but otherwise, no complaints.
Easy to adjust, holds sb800 & 900 with no problems.
In a tight location where you want two lights up & directed differently but dont really have the space for two stands, this is answer.

Works well in most places. Extremely versatile. Quick and simple to use/set-up. Only drawback, the hotshoe insert does not lock. Might have to use gaffer tape, or other method of securing, depending on orientation (angle) of attached strobe.

This comes with a regular cold ISO hot shoe bracket. Evidently Manfrotto does not offer a Minolta/Sony shoe for this clamp. That's OK, we're used to doing DIY modifications because of this. I simply removed the ISO hot shoe from the mini ballhead, cut a 1/4 x 20 thread bolt to length, placed this new bolt back into the mini ball head and now I can add the Minolta/Sony flash stands without any difficulty. In my case I had an old Manfrotto quick release around, so for now I just put the quick release to the bolt.
A word of advanced notice, the spring on this clamp is strong and the width of the levers makes it necessary to use both hands to handle the clamp and flash safely. I would have given 5 stars if Manfrotto offered a Sony type shoe.

I bought this with the intention to use it as a DSLR mount. All you need is a couple of $5 parts and this holds a 7D and a prime lens with no safety concerns (the shoe part screws off to reveal a 1/4inch female thread attached to the ball head). I had a 7D rig 20 ft up on a stairwell (for video work), and it was solid, steady and safe. All the parts are metal — this is a really great piece of kit.

If you use off camera flash you need one of these. Will allow mounting your flash on a light stand or virtually any pipe, furniture, or passing animal, and then aiming it exactly as you need to. Once you try one you will never leave home without it.
