The Canon 9825A002 is a 20x zoom lens designed specifically for the XL-2 and XL series miniDV camcorders. The lens is backward compatible with the XL-1, providing improved quality over the original 16x model and forward compatible with the XL-H1. Features include added servo control in manual mode, improved low-speed crawling zoom, 16:9 and 4:3 aspect compatible and fluorite optics.
- Optical Stabilization
- During long takes, arm strain, focal length and environmental conditions can often make footage appear too shaky. This lens features the Super Range optical stabilization system, providing smooth shots every time.
- Backwards Compatible
- The 20x lens is completely backwards compatible with all XL series cameras, including the oldest model XL-1. The lens also functions with the new XLH1 HDV camera.
- Fluorite Lens
- The lens uses fluorite, a material that provides outstanding resolution, contrast, and color reproduction. The fluorite element inside the lens defeats color aberration, an effect that causes a reduction in sharpness, contrast and color.
- Aspect Ratio
- Aspect ratios of 4:3 and 16:9 are supported when using this lens.

For Xl_1 Series owners, don't throw out the old standby yet. Adding the 20X Zoom Lens to your arsenal is a rebirth for your backup as an additional camera. The coated glass is perfect and sharp and blows the 16X away. Some may be concerned about reduced area view. I suggest the 3X Wide Lens for that.
