This is the standard and simplest flash shoe adapter that works with the enormous lineup of SCA-system Metz flashes.  The SCA system of flashes are wonderful for their capacity to "talk" to just about any camera as if they were the camera manufacturer's accessory flash itself.

The SCA 301 can be used safely with any flash shoe, hot or "cold", though if the shoe is "cold" you'll need to use either the 36-50 or 36-52 PC cord to fire your flash from the camera's PC socket.  These are both listed here as recommended accessories.

Comments about Metz SCA 301 Standard Flash Shoe Adapter for the SCA System:

The older 54 series shoe mount flashes (54MZ3 and 54MZ4) can be had for a steal on the used market. Slap a standard show on the flash and it'll work as a great off camera flash--very powerful and configurable. The standard shoe also allows for very effective on camera operation in either manual or auto mode. Great deal to provide that flexibility and functionality. The only improvement would be the strength of the shoe mount. Never had one break on me, but the build materials are plastic.

Comments about Metz SCA 301 Standard Flash Shoe Adapter for the SCA System:

I'm a Sony owner/user and wanted to use my Metz flash head off camera with a wireless receiver and, therefore, needed a foot with a standard ISO fitting. This shoe adapter worked perfectly for this

My only criticism is that the adapter is slightly narrower than the bottom of my flash, so there is about a 1/8" gap after it locks into place and you can see the circuit board. I'd be far more concerned if I were going to permanently leave this adapter on my flash head.

But, it is a simple adapter without any TTL commands - just fires the flash. For that, it worked perfectly.

Used to allow 45 CL-4 to work in auto thyristor mode on Canon 5dII.
Although it does not allow ETTL operation, the automatic operation works fine.

Comments about Metz SCA 301 Standard Flash Shoe Adapter for the SCA System:

Needed this to connect my Metz flash to my Sony R-1. Using the flash on the left and the connection on the right of the camera balanced out quite well. Better than I expected. The shoe although a little big is well made.
