I use this lens as my walk around. I have found it to be very sharp and well built. I shoot a lot of close ups but wanted something that could do both close ups and general photography. So far it has proven itself to be really good for close ups with its 1:3 ratio and as far as general photography it is an outstanding lens for the money. One thing I might point out, is that I did not purchase this lens from B & H, sorry B & H but it was one of those spur of the moment things in the local camera store, a moment of passion you might say, but just the same an outstanding lens for the money and I paid the same as what B & H lists for the lens.
The reviews here are a bit scary concerning this lens but I have not experienced any of the afore mentioned problems that other users have commented about, i.e. blurry focus, auto focus problems, things breaking, etc. I am a bit "old school" and prefer not to use automatic features as much as possible but these days we are forced into a few and so I cannot say anything bad about the lenses AF feature, as I never have used it and probably never will. A really great lens for the price, sharp and consistant in performance. Buy it! From B & H of course.

Sharpness is a pretty good bang for the buck, close tothe Canon L and much sharper than Canon USM glass. As for weight it's lighter than the Canon L equivalent. Not as rugged though. But what can you expect for the price.
HOWEVER here are the more worrysome issues: Don't even think about shooting a sunset with this lens. The flare this lens gives is quite noticable and sometimes plain bizarre.
Autofocus: Forget it. My copy has front focus issues which are somewhat managable with manual focus.
When shooting with the full frame Canon 1DS MK 2: Heavy vignetting at 24mm, too heavy to be fixed in Photoshop.
Lens locks in sometimes when zooming out at 24mm.
When shooting downwards, zoom starts to creep and focal length increases without touching the zoom ring.
An OK lens for beginners and amateurs.Pro's: save up for the Canon L 24-70.

Comments about Sigma 24-70mm f/2.8 EX DG Macro DF Autofocus Lens for Canon EOS:
This is an amazing lens! I shoot a wide variety of photos and this one fits the bill for a majority of my work! The internal focus is fast and acurate. The switch from AF to MF took me a second to get used to with the pull back ring. The other thing that is funky (but not bad) is that the lens is longest at it's shortest focal length. There is a good solid feel to this lens and I would recommend it to any professional.

Really sharp, Fast, good in low light...

Used for low light conditions for live music and some portrait work
Sharp as a tack. Quick focus. $900 cheaper than it's canon counterpart.
A little on the noisy side but of you aren't shooting weddings that won't matter.

Comments about Sigma 24-70mm f/2.8 EX DG Macro DF Autofocus Lens for Canon EOS:
I haven't had any problems with the sigma 24-70. I use it on my canon 5d, and I haven't compared it to the canon 24-70, but I don't even feel the need to. For the price difference, I think sigma is SO the better choice. it IS a little heavy, but come on, it's a big lens.

Used it for the first time at a shoot the other day and it worked great and gave me ultra sharp pictures. It is a litte on the heavy site but it feels great in your hands.

Comments about Sigma 24-70mm f/2.8 EX DG Macro DF Autofocus Lens for Canon EOS:
I cannot stress enough the overall quality difference between the standard lens I received with my camera and this one. Even though my standard lens has a wider range, I still prefer this one. The quality of the pictures can be seen right away with using this lens. Also having a fixed F-stop throughout the range of the zoom is something that used to be available on only the most expensive of lenses years ago. This is truly a good value for the ease of use and quality.
Don't be dissuaded with this lens because it has not Image Stabilization. In fact this is basically built-in with the extra weight it has. Those cheaper Canon lenses require it due to the extreme lightweight lenses and the increased concern for shaking while taking the picture. This lens is perfectly balanced and does not need image stabilization.
Also unless you are a true professional, or take lots of pictures of high-speed action, then I would not recommend the upgrade to this lens that has the built-in motor. This one focuses plenty fast enough.
Thank you,

I bought this lens to shoot a couple at the beach. It performed well above what I was expecting. The colors were very vibrant and the 24- 70mm range is very nice for portraits.

Comments about Sigma 24-70mm f/2.8 EX DG Macro DF Autofocus Lens for Canon EOS:
Ok so bottom line, this lens is good but not great. On the good side love f2.8 great in video on my 5dmii. I more or less only shot video and this is a counter barrel design (twist other way then usual and when at 24mm the lens sticks out and at 70mm is all the way in. Also the zoom is very close to the end off lens and start of camera hard to zoom fast and not much space to put hand if your using auto focus and the motor is spinning

I bought this lens for my Canon 450d and travelled to Turkey without having a chance to test it. When I tested it in Turkey, I realized that after couple of shots, it gives error 01 and you need to turn the camera off and on to take new photos. Since I will be in Turkey for couple of months, I gave my lens to the certified sigma technical service. They are still trying to fix it without a solution.
It is so annoying and disappointing. It is my first time to use a sigma lens and probably be the last time.

I bought this lens over the Canon EF 24-70, I would have preferred the Canon but the price is right and I am happy with this lens. It works great with photos and video set-ups however I have found the autofocus a little frustrating.

Comments about Sigma 24-70mm f/2.8 EX DG Macro DF Autofocus Lens for Canon EOS:
I purchased this lens for my Nikon D-80 and it performed flawlessly. It is quick to focus even in low light situations on AF but for better results, always practice manually focussing your images for razor sharp images. I am a professional Landscape photographer and I have used this lens now for over 2 years and it's still going strong. I have used Nikon brand lenses and I really don't see any difference in image quality. I just purchased a new Canon 1Ds Mark II and I am getting ready to purchase another Sigma 24-70mm f/2.8 EX DG Macro lens for it.

Comments about Sigma 24-70mm f/2.8 EX DG Macro DF Autofocus Lens for Canon EOS:
I have used this lens for a couple of years, and have been impressed with the quality(for the most part). Paired with an entry level DSLR, the focusing can be a bit slow. Paired with a camera with good autofocus capabilities the focus speed is great. (I have used it with the 1D mark III and Rebel XTI, much more responsive with the 1D Mark III as expected) I use it mostly for weddings and portraits as I have a 17-40 4.0 L for landscape/nature. It lacks some sharpness when wide open, which can be expected, but overall it is nice to have the low light capability for weddings without the added expense of the 24-70 2.8 L from Canon. Of course the image quality isn't as good as the Canon, and if you're using the "sweet spot" of the lens you aren't anywhere near 2.8 so it kind of defeats the purpose if you want the best possible results(which is true of any lens pushed to its limit). If you've got the money, go with the Canon 24-70 2.8 L or if you don't need 2.8, go with the 24-105 F4.0 L if money is no option. Overall I am pleased with this lens, great focal length, and flare can be a bit of a problem occasionally, but all in all a good lens for the money. I will sell it and upgrade to the Canon someday, but this gets the job done until then, no major complaints, and the image quality is good most of the time.

I took this lens out to shoot a wedding a week ago and it was great. The pictures are extremely sharp and the details are great. My only complaint was that it was a little slow to focus but nothing really too difficult to manage. I did not find the lens to be too heavy at all.

Comments about Sigma 24-70mm f/2.8 EX DG Macro DF Autofocus Lens for Canon EOS:
Great lens! I have another, older version of the same lens that I dropped and had repaired a while back, that has been my "workhorse" wedding lens, for a number of years. The new one is a replacement/add on for the same use. So far, it is outperforming the old lens, with better, faster focusing, and the images produced with it, are very sharp.
