The Canon EF-S 10-22mm f/3.5-4.5 USM is an ultra wide-angle zoom lens with dynamic expressive capability for all EF-S mount digital EOS cameras, exceptionally small and lightweight for maximum mobility.
With an effective focal length range of approximately 16-35mm in 35mm format, this lens allows you to get extremely close to subjects, exaggerating the difference in size between a near object and its background. Creative photographers can use this phenomenon to create excellent separation between subject and background for a strong sense of presence, or for a pan-focus effect with everything from foreground to background sharply in focus.
Designed specifically for digital photography, the lens has specially shaped lens elements and Super Spectra coatings to suppress ghosting and flare, which can be caused by reflections off digital camera sensors. An exclusive optional lens hood can further reduce the incidence of flare.
Note: Not suitable for 35mm film SLR cameras, or for 35mm size "full-frame" digital cameras, e.g. 1Ds or Kodak Pro SLR/c.
Note! Not suitable for 35mm film SLR cameras or digital camera with image sensor bigger than APS-C size, only fits on the EOS Digital Rebel series or 20D, 30D, 40D and 50D, 7D SLR cameras.

I come from a polar opposite photography interest to a wide-angle, which is macro photography, and so when I first bought the EF-S 10-22mm f/3.5-4.5 USM lens I didn't use it much. What a mistake!
As might be expected, the 10-22 is a fantastic landscape tool and I have taken many stunning photos of the Florida beaches with it, and the colors and clarity brought out by this lens are fantastic.
What is not so obvious about this lens are its many other capabilities, for instance macro work. I have the Canon 50D and my primary tool is the 100mm macro lens, but I find myself using the 10-22mm super-wide more and more. If you get the lens extension tubes you can capture wide-angle macro shots, enabling you to capture a whole leaf or bug at a super-close distance! Even without the tubes, I photograph flowers a lot, but with a true 100 macro I can only get so much of the flower or bush in my field of view, without standing back ten to fifteen feet. Normally, this is what I want in a flower shot, very close and very sharp, yet sometimes it is important to photograph the entire plant for field ID. Well, with the EF-S 10-22mm lens, I can go right up to within inches of the flower and yet get the entire flower captured, plus the stem and leaves, which is great for field identification purposes. The exceptional depth of field generated by this lens also provides a great opportunity for creativity. I can lie on the ground and take a side-flower shot which not only shows the whole flower ... but also provides a full perspective of the surrounding grass, the comparative massiveness of the trees, and so provides a full background to create a whole different "feel" to the photo than a simple macro shot of a flower.
So, yeah, this is a great lens for landscape and seascape shots ... but it is also an extremely versatile lens for much more than that ... if you start thinking about its potential. Get your 'creative juices' flowing and enjoy it :)

The reason I'm giving it an average 3 stars is the very high price, practically the double than other brands, and I'm not sure there is such a big difference in the final image.

This lens is great. I've previously heard that this lens should be considered an L-Series lens. This is definately true with its price, and its quality. At the wide angle, this lens captures tons with little noticable distortion. The lens loses some sharpness at 22mm, but it's still great. The colors produced by this are beautiful, and it has very little flare. While it can be difficult to get good bokeh, it is possible if you work at it. The autofocus is extremely fast and quiet. The lens is somewhat heavy, but this is understandable with so many elements. The fact that the end of the lens does not move (all movements are internal) is very nice if you use polarizers. Any landscape photographer should have this lens glued to their camera.

I bought this lens before heading to Costa Rica. It takes fantastic landscape shots as you'd expect from a 10 mm ultra wide. I was incredibly surprised at how fast the autofocus is and how smooth the focus ring moved. There is nothing more to expect from this lens. Up close, it produces the perfect wide-angle distortion that we all know and love.
I have been trying to use it with the Moose polarized warming filter, but as with all ultra wides, it produces some over-polarization at some edges. I'd recommend spending the extra $$ to get the thinner polarized filters. Regardless, I've been able to take great shots with this lens and could not be happier. I used this lens with the Canon Rebel T2i.

It seems well-built. I am not a professional though I take sports photos of all my kids teams and provide the other parents with the shots of their kids as well. I probably take (before culling) 10K photos a year. I know what I like and I like this lens. It's given me a lot more flexibility than I had with the the 50mm fixed I had. I also use it for photographing houses I'm considering for purchase/renovation. Using Canon 7D.

For the past 6 months I have been relying on my 50mm lens for most of my photography. I was fed up with the quality of my kit lens that I've had for nearly 5 years. After reading several reviews I chose to purchase this lens. There's a reason that it has such great reviews. It's sharper than I expected and takes over where my 50mm falls short. I purchased this lens for wide angle shots and especially for travel. I am very satisfied with the quality. It was a bog decision for me because of the cost but in comparison to more expensive lenses, this one is almost a bargain. Bonus - even with shipping and duty, it was still almost $200 for me to purchase this lens through B&H instead of buying from a retailer in Canada
