The Dn-s1000 cd player is far more than an entry level cd player, considering that it has been in the market for several years now. The first look on it leaves an erroneous impression on what this unit can do. And as I said, even when it has an entry level price if you compare it with other pioneer products, this cd player offers great quality and features. The pitch control is solid and stable as well as the cueing and playing buttons. The Unit also offers a good range of effects (Flanger, Echo, Filter with 3 bands, Reverse, Brake, Drag-S) each parameter adjustable and quite responsive. The looping section is also pretty good considering that it has two loop-hot cue buttons. What I liked about the looping section is that it is trimmable, and this is very helpfull when handling acapellas or when doing more advanced mixing (the trim does not go all the way to a tone sound like in the newer denon models or the pioneer counterparts). I would say that the only setback of the unit is the jogwheel as I find it not to be very responsive when using the scratch mode on it. It does say in the description of the unit that it is pressure responsive and not touch sensitive. I am not a lover of using the jog wheel for pitch bending but which is why I don't use it that way.
Overall the unit is a great option for bedroom djs or even for bars or small venues. The price-function comparison on this unit is great as the unit does offer a lot of functions that make mixing and djing a lot more fun and professional. One last thing worth metioning is that the pitch range goes as low as +-4, making possible for the dj to fine tune the beatmatching.
