The Bogen/Manfrotto 694 Magfiber is a 4-leg section monopod that combines the strength of magnesium and carbon fiber. The monopod is crafted from carbon fiber using an exclusive, patented process. Under intense pressure, extra long carbon fibers are combined with resin to produce a stronger tube that absorbs more vibration - and with a wall thickness of only 1.2mm.
Manfrotto engineers have also replaced all aluminum components with magnesium. The switch represents a lateral move in sturdiness, yet a substantial gain in strength and overall reduction of weight.

This is the first monopod I have owned, but not the first one used. Very lightweight yet sturdy, and compacts to a size that will fit in a 22" rollerboard bag for carry-on. Fits both size heads for compatibility. Excellent telescoping capability that is easily adjustable to your taste and style. Cannot go wrong with this one

Comments about Manfrotto by Bogen Imaging 694 Magfiber Carbon Fiber 4-Section Monopod:
The low weight is especially great since I often hold the whole thing with one hand. A monopod is different than a tripod in this respect.
I'm adding a Manfrotto 449SP2 Rubber/Retractable Spiked Foot to mine since I lost the rubber tip on a hike. I was using it as a walking stick and it got lost in the muck somewhere.

Comments about Manfrotto by Bogen Imaging 694 Magfiber Carbon Fiber 4-Section Monopod:
This is my first monopod and thus far it seems to do the trick; it's well built and looks good. I purchased it mainly for long distance backpacking and although it's a tad heavier than I would like, it is well built and should easily withstand the hardships of the trail. I really like the locking levers on the legs; makes adjustments quick and easy.

Took this monopod to Borneo on a two-week shoot and it performed perfectly. It's lightweight and fits in my 22 inch carry on bag. Also bought the accessory spiked foot and shoulder brace. So much nicer to carry than a tripod.

I love this mono pod for the beach and around town. I mostly use it at the beach to hold my Canon EF 100-400 lens. It is stable, and with the Giatto ball head it makes a formidable asset to carry around.
It is lightweight for sure, but the clasps are strong and sure. The carbon fiber body makes it easy to blow off sand and dust
The only thing I need to get is a large foot for the sand, it likes to burrow because it is so narrow at the foot. On cement, hard pack or grass it is fine, for beach sand it is a bit narrow out of the box.
This product is tough, great looking and sturdy. But most of all does exactly what it is suppose to. Give me a leg up.

Comments about Manfrotto by Bogen Imaging 694 Magfiber Carbon Fiber 4-Section Monopod:
I've used this monopod for a number of lengthy photo shoots, where a tripod might have been NICE, but impractical. Typically, crowded indoor public events in the city, or huge outdoor concerts and festivals.
This particular model is very lightweight, easy to transport and use... and projects a good professional image when you're using it. I specifically mention this for the part-time and committed amateur. It seemed to (happily) persuade folks to give me "a little extra room" for my shooting. Not that I needed it though. When you use a monopod you take up much less space than a tripod.
Anyway, two important comments: 1. This model (as well as several other Bogen models) uses a flip (cam) lock type of arrangement for adjusting / locking the leg sections. THIS IS WHAT YOU WANT. It's fast and other "twist" tighten models are less easy to lock in place when you make your adjustments. (But you KNOW when you click the flip lock down... no question.) 2. I also suggest you buy the Bogen / Manfrotto model 3229 Swivel Tilt Monopod Head with Quick Release. You need to buy a head with the monopod of SOME TYPE, and the 3229 makes quick on-and-off changes very easy. (There are other head options too.) It has a strong locking function so your camera won't take a tumble, and the head allows you to go to vertical positioning (portrait) orientation without removing the camera from the monopod. Just twist a simple knob.
Overall, I love it. You can save some money by not buying the high-tech carbon fiber model... and that would be the only other option I would consider.

I have several older ones, that are heavier. Liked the older one better, but this one's okay.
