The Westcott Spiderlite TD5 light fixture accepts tungsten (3200° K) or fluorescent (5000° K) bulbs. Three separate controls allow running of multiple combinations of bulbs together with no color shift. It has all-metal construction with built-in points for direct attachment of a softbox -- no adapter ring is necessary.
This Large 1 Light Kit includes a 36 x 48" silver interior softbox, tilt bracket, and 13' heavy duty light stand. Bulbs must be ordered separately.
- Suggested uses of this size kit: A one-person full-length portrait or medium size (3x4') tabletop setup.
- Rear-mounted handle for ease of positioning.
- Softbox is vented to dissipate heat up to 1000 watts.

The idea of continuous lighting is definitely great and works out well. I bought a large TD5 kit and It is really really "large" for my small home studio. It was very difficult to assemble specially when the instructions CD was not that great in explaining the steps. Also the bulb holders are very close to each other and lamps touch. A good thought but not very well executed.

The idea was to just get a light. I did not know that I was going to get the best light made. The kit I ordered did not have lights included but that is the way I wanted it.

These are good lights for a studio set up. They give off a nice soft light. The stands that come with the kit are VERY sturdy and well made. I ordered them to use for wedding photography. They don't kick out nearly enough light for what I needed them for. So I kept them for my studio set up that I am going to need in the coming months.

purchased 04/08. have been using alien bee lights and boxes and decided to give constant light a shot. TD5 is solid, heavy, and horribly overpriced, being nothing more than machined metal and commerical switches and sockets. using third-party CFL 26watt/5500K. would like to use higher wattage but spacing of the sockets precludes greater than 26w bulbs. 500w of CFL lights is not a lot to work with, so a f/1.8 lens is a virtual necessity. softbox is a bit higher grade in material and construction than we've had before. reflective surface has a more even tone, but assembling the box requires two grown adults, preferably one of whom has prior experience as a professional wrestler because assembly is challenging at best. front diffuser seems to have a slight bluish tint. included 13' stand is reasonably made and adequate, but we wish the air-cushioned stand had been included since it is virtually the same price. on the whole, because we have a stable of fast lens, we see some potential for this kit, especially with children who are intimidated by strobes.
