Comments about Wendt X3 3-Channel Portable ENG/EFP Field Mixer:
This mixer is very quiet (self noise) - so much so that when I first tested it I thought it wasn't on until I began checking the shotgun and I was surprised to find out it was on and relatively turned up and clear as a bell - completely crisp clean sound! So I imagine the mic pre's are high quality. Also, it is very nicely designed in terms of ergonomics - everything is easy to get to and easy to understand. The limiter is very subtle and works well. I use it with a custom TA-5 to TRS mini cable to feed my Canon 5DmkII. Each balanced output is line/mic selectable - even the unbalanced stereo output has a line/mic level output selector!
The batteries last so long it's crazy - I used it on a 10+ hour day and it was strong all day long. When it the batteries begin to go weak, it still delivers pro performance for a long time! It's extremely tough too - very sturdy chassis and easy to use knobs when you sometimes can't look down to see what you're adjusting - intuitive.
I won't repeat all of the features that you can read for yourself, but I personally want to say this: I called Wendt to ask about the proper pins to use for my TA5 cable, and Bob Wendt answered the phone! I asked if I could speak to a technician, and he said, "This is Bob, I designed the X3, how can I help you?" I don't think you can say that for any other phone support for field mixer being produced today! This is truly a solid buy! I love mine.

Comments about Wendt X3 3-Channel Portable ENG/EFP Field Mixer:
I purchased this to use with my 5DmkII. I bought a TA-5 to stereo mini cable from [@] in Orlando in order to get an unbalanced output to the 5D. The X3 has excellent mic pre amps and is extremely quiet - in fact I thought it wasn't on the first time I was testing a mic, and when I spoke, it almost shocked me to find out it was on and clear as a bell!Although it is not easily possible to monitor the 5DmkII, I get professional sound recordings setting my manual level on the 5DmkII fairly low and letting the X3 deliver a nice clean strong signal. Battery life is impressive, I went a full day shooting without any issues. This mixer is extremely flexible, each output can be changed from mic level to line level, and I mean each output, from TA5 unbalanced, to Ch.1 or Ch.2 XLR - all separately. And I'm a fan of hard switch for assigning inputs to Left, Both, or Right, instead of a pan knob.I also use this to run a line-level signal to my EX1 cameras so I don't have to set my EX1 channels to mic or 48 phantom mic and I get a cleaner sound.I called Wendt to inquire about the TA5 output to make sure I had [@] select the correct pins for the unbalanced output, and Mr. Wendt picked up the phone! I kept asking if I could talk to a tech, and he basically said, "I'm Mr. Wendt, what do you need?" I was a little floored. So, excellent support, and an excellent product!

Comments about Wendt X3 3-Channel Portable ENG/EFP Field Mixer:
i bought this to use on my 2nd sound/boom op job, which was shooting a p.s.a. i had been researching this mixer and the sound devices 302, and after scouring the web for deals on either new or used units, i decided that this mixer was perfect for my current and future needs and b&h had the lowest price for a new one.
i was very pleased with how easy it was to setup and to use. the preamps are quiet, with enough gain for the small variety of mics i have used with it so far. i also purchased the snake for this unit, which made monitoring a breeze. battery consumption was incredibly low... never had to change them once during a two day shoot (both days over 6 hrs), but i did shut it down whenever it wasn't needed, during setups, etc. to conserve them. perfect size and weight. the led's are easy to see and markings easy to read. i'm very pleased with this mixer.

Simple/uncluttered, reliable, sounds great, small, lightweight. Built tough, very trustworthy.
Would like more LED indicators and better monitor volume performance.
