The ExpoDisc Neutral White Balance Filter allows digital photographers to quickly and easily set an accurate custom white balance. Each ExpoDisc is individually assembled, calibrated and certified for neutrality in the visible spectrum, and for 18% light transmission. The ExpoDisc can be used on-the-fly to set a white balance in-camera when shooting JPEG, or later in post production when shooting RAW. Using an ExpoDisc to set a custom white balance results in consistently balanced color and eliminates many of the yellow, red and blue color casts commonly seen in digital photography. The ExpoDisc is easy to use. Setting a white balance with the ExpoDisc eliminates many of the inconsistencies and inconveniences associated with using white balance cards and targets, including unwieldy size, unwanted reflectivity, improper angling, and shadows. To set a white balance with an ExpoDisc, simply take a photograph of the light source (incident light) through the ExpoDisc, then follow your camera's instructions to set the camera's custom white balance. Because the ExpoDisc is calibrated for an 18% light transmission, you can also use it as a reference tool for manually determining proper exposure. The ExpoDisc is available in a variety of sizes to fit most popular lenses. The ExpoDisc does not thread into the lens; instead, its quick mount design can be pushed-on and popped-off to facilitate a quick white balance. ExpoDiscs do not screw in. They lack front threads and were designed to be pushed-on over the lens threads in order to facilitate a quick white balance.

I had been using a grey card to perform my WB's. When I bought the Nikkor 80-200 f2.8 I spent the money and bought this on impulse that day. Best impulse buy I have ever made! It takes a little to get use to as it's tad different from how you use the grey card. I have used it on my 50mm as well to balance works awesome! This makes a great present for the holidays or birthday, but you or the person you get it for will not be dissapointed!

I like using the ExpoDisc for shoots when I have the time to take the reading- using it for the wedding portraits inside the church. I've found that it's difficult to use in the reception venues since the lighting conditions change depending on where I am in the room. Overall it a good product when the lighting conditions don't change within the room.

Comments about ExpoImaging ExpoDisc 77mm Digital White Balance Filter - Neutral:
Most of the reviews are accurate for the expo disk, and thats how I judged the product for purchase until I used it recently(as I have only had it 2 weeks). It does exactly what it is advertised to do. And saves time getting white balance right during the shoot, instead of post processing. My only complaint, is it is a bit pricey. It also doesn't like to stay on my 77mm Tokina lens very well, but to me, that isn't much of an issue. I purchased the largest size expo disk to match the largest lens I have. This way, I don't have to purchase other expo disks for my smaller diameter lens.

It takes a little getting used to remember to do this, but the white balance is worth it. Nice skin tones.

I pack it whenever I take my gear. Looks real professional, and I love the build quality and accuracy of the resulting white balance adjustment. Works wonders when shooting available light under strange lighting situations.
The only thing that puzzles me is that under certain lighting situations (60% daylight/40% tungsten), the resulting image is bluish, so my camera does a much better job without it.

I've used the ExpoDisc on both a Nikon D70 and a D300 under a variety of lighting conditions ... excellent results, even with mixed / unusual light sources outdoors at night where accurate colour rendition is important. Simple to use, lanyard so you can loop it around your neck. (Only drawback is for variety of lens filter sizes you'll either need a separate ExpoDisk or step rings.)

I've bought this really filter to adjust my WB when shooting video on my DSLR (before I was using 18% grey card and adjust colour in Edius). I found that it is safer for quality to adjust white balance before shooting than do it in post-production.It works if you handle to keep the disc on a lens (or filter). Mine is always falling due to primitive mount (it really looks like a school project). If you need it right now, buy it. [*]

I've jumped into children's portrait work recently and the Expodisc have proved very easy to use. When transitioning from a studio to a park setting with 2-5 year old children, there isn't much time for adjustments. The Expodisc lets me make quick, accurate adjustments in seconds.

Easier than using grey cards. Images turn out great.
Only downside is you need to by a filter sizer for different lenses u own, or as some people i know do buy the largest size filter then just hold it in front of the lens with smaller sizes.

I love this gizmo. I thought I may not have something to use it for. After using it for several times, I found that the white balance on my shooting have improved. This is excellent for indoor environment where there are different type of lighting. I don't have to worry about the proper white balance I will be setting.

It does what it is suppose to do and does it well. The only complaint I have about it is that it's pricey. But you have to pay to play.
A simple grey card does about the same thing. That and the price is why I give it a star less.

Great concept. This beats using a Gray Card in that it is much easier to use. Problem is the device falls off my 2 Nikon 77mm lenses. I need to hand hold it while in use. Other than that, I love it

I read a few reviews about this item so I decided to try it out. It's so simple to use with my D700 and it saves me time post-processing. I watched all the "how-to" guides on expo's website which was super helpful. It's not cheap but it saves you time after the shoot which, for me, is the most important!

really see the difference from auto white balance. Very easy to use and made post processing a breeze. I shoot Nikon and its really warmed up the photos and given a much better balance. Going to pick up the portrait Disc as well

I do event photography and before this consistent white balance was an experience in frustration. It used to take me lots of time to get it right in post.
With this it was transformed into a couple of minutes job. And the best part is that I can do this with no assistant to hold a white card etc.
Getting the mood lighting that is used sometimes was as easy as well.
While I like a little bit of warmth, I still bought the neutral since adding warmth is a simple matter of one slider in lightroom develop section.
