The ExpoDisc Neutral White Balance Filter allows digital photographers to quickly and easily set an accurate custom white balance. Each ExpoDisc is individually assembled, calibrated and certified for neutrality in the visible spectrum, and for 18% light transmission. The ExpoDisc can be used on-the-fly to set a white balance in-camera when shooting JPEG, or later in post production when shooting RAW. Using an ExpoDisc to set a custom white balance results in consistently balanced color and eliminates many of the yellow, red and blue color casts commonly seen in digital photography. The ExpoDisc is easy to use. Setting a white balance with the ExpoDisc eliminates many of the inconsistencies and inconveniences associated with using white balance cards and targets, including unwieldy size, unwanted reflectivity, improper angling, and shadows. To set a white balance with an ExpoDisc, simply take a photograph of the light source (incident light) through the ExpoDisc, then follow your camera's instructions to set the camera's custom white balance. Because the ExpoDisc is calibrated for an 18% light transmission, you can also use it as a reference tool for manually determining proper exposure. The ExpoDisc is available in a variety of sizes to fit most popular lenses. The ExpoDisc does not thread into the lens; instead, its quick mount design can be pushed-on and popped-off to facilitate a quick white balance. ExpoDiscs do not screw in. They lack front threads and were designed to be pushed-on over the lens threads in order to facilitate a quick white balance.

Not Just for Pros!I'd like to think my photography is beyond amateur by now but I am by no means a pro. I spend a great deal of time on my hobby and have recently had some paid work shooting UFC style events, billboards and website shots in Seoul, Korea.Gray balance has always intimidated me. I finally decided to overcome my fear and applied myself to studying the art of gray balance. In my quest for knowledge I came across the word "ExpoDisc" hundreds of times. It wasn't until the hundred and first time that I actually decided to figure out what an ExpoDisc was.The more I read the clear it became that this was the ultimate gray card solution. I ordered the 77mm ExpoDisc even though I don't even own a 77mm lens. My rational for doing so is that I have read most professional lenses are 77mm. Thus I can grow into this filter and in the mean time it will fit all my smaller lenses. It wont lock on, because it's too big, but it's just a matter of holding the filter up against the barrel, no big deal. At 99 bucks a pop you don't want to be buying one of these for each lens.Pros:-Nice packaging (Packaging is your first impression, it says a lot about the company quality of the product contained within)-Simple to use-Great instructions that not only tell you HOW to use it, but also, WHY to use it which I appreciate.-Well built, feels very solid-Case and lanyard included-Instant gratification when your photos come out looking heaps betterCons-Case could be more streamlined, a little clunky-Yes, it's pricyConclusionEvery photographer can benefit from an ExpoDisc. To steal a quote from the packaging, "Why didn't someone think of this sooner?"Greg[@]Ps. I think this is the first time I've ever given a product a 5 star rating.

I like using the ExpoDisc for shoots when I have the time to take the reading- using it for the wedding portraits inside the church. I've found that it's difficult to use in the reception venues since the lighting conditions change depending on where I am in the room. Overall it a good product when the lighting conditions don't change within the room.

I've jumped into children's portrait work recently and the Expodisc have proved very easy to use. When transitioning from a studio to a park setting with 2-5 year old children, there isn't much time for adjustments. The Expodisc lets me make quick, accurate adjustments in seconds.

Easier than using grey cards. Images turn out great.
Only downside is you need to by a filter sizer for different lenses u own, or as some people i know do buy the largest size filter then just hold it in front of the lens with smaller sizes.

I love this gizmo. I thought I may not have something to use it for. After using it for several times, I found that the white balance on my shooting have improved. This is excellent for indoor environment where there are different type of lighting. I don't have to worry about the proper white balance I will be setting.

It does what it is suppose to do and does it well. The only complaint I have about it is that it's pricey. But you have to pay to play.
A simple grey card does about the same thing. That and the price is why I give it a star less.

Great concept. This beats using a Gray Card in that it is much easier to use. Problem is the device falls off my 2 Nikon 77mm lenses. I need to hand hold it while in use. Other than that, I love it

I read a few reviews about this item so I decided to try it out. It's so simple to use with my D700 and it saves me time post-processing. I watched all the "how-to" guides on expo's website which was super helpful. It's not cheap but it saves you time after the shoot which, for me, is the most important!

really see the difference from auto white balance. Very easy to use and made post processing a breeze. I shoot Nikon and its really warmed up the photos and given a much better balance. Going to pick up the portrait Disc as well

I do event photography and before this consistent white balance was an experience in frustration. It used to take me lots of time to get it right in post.
With this it was transformed into a couple of minutes job. And the best part is that I can do this with no assistant to hold a white card etc.
Getting the mood lighting that is used sometimes was as easy as well.
While I like a little bit of warmth, I still bought the neutral since adding warmth is a simple matter of one slider in lightroom develop section.

Much easier that a gray board!!! Just hold it over your lens and click.
Would suggest getting the 82mm though. I bought the 77mm and it is big enough for my lenses, but who know, I may get a 82mm someday.

Simple one-step custom white balancing for digital SLRs. Gets you very close to accurate color in mixed-light situations on a shot-by-shot basis. Must be used on manual focus setting. Great for photographing fine art in tricky settings. Also good for shooting people at events with ever-changing lighting.

Comments about ExpoImaging ExpoDisc 77mm Digital White Balance Filter - Neutral:
The product probably works fine for people who have control over their subjects. It's was not until I received the WB Filter that I was made aware that you are required to stand next to the subject and take a shot in the direction that the photographer will be standing in order to capture the custom WB for subsequent photos. This would not work for me since my subjects rarely remain still for very long.

I obtained this WB tool after reading reviews and watching tutorials however I could never get the same results. It is well made but in test I did my in camera AWB beat the ExpoDisc. This device probably is useful in some lighting situations but didn't work for me. It is pricey and I have purchased too many gadgets already that seldom get used so I returned mine.
