Sto-Fen #OM-EY Omni-Bounce for Canon 580EX & 580EX II
The Sto-fen Omni-Bounce creates a diffused bare bulb effect, giving even coverage across the entire frame, with lenses from 15mm to 200mm in the 35mm format (and equal in other formats as well). The Omni-Bounce is easy to use and goes onto and off the flash in seconds with custom fitting and no touch fastener.
Designed for years of service without the bulk of some other diffusers, it is small enough to fit easily into a gadget bag or pocket.

I love the way the bounce works. Great product, but like many other reviews, mine fit so tightly I could only get it on about 20% of the way. Here is how I fixed the problem: (You obviously have to be extremely cautious not to get your flash wet, so do this at your own risk). I put two quart size zip lock freezer bags over the end of the flash. I held the diffuser only (not the flash) in a pan of boiling water for about 30 seconds or so with a pair of tongs until it softened. With a leather work glove on, I shook the excess water off of the Sto-Fen and then pushed it onto the flash covered with the two zip lock bags. (My first attempt with one bag left the fit still too tight, but it may be safer to try one bag first). I let it sit until it was cool, then dried it completely. It had formed to the shape of the flash and it now fits perfectly. I hope this helps others with the same problem.

This product needs to be redesigned for the 580EXII. I own three other Omni-Bounce units for the other flashes I own, but this one just doesn't fit the 580EXII, even though it's supposed to. If you force it, you can stick it on only about 1/8", when it should really go on about 1/2".
I found that if you gently heat the Omni-Bounce in hot water, you can stretch it out with your hands. Eventually I got it to fit like a glove, but for such a simple product, this thing should work right out of the box.
Once you have it attached to the flash, it works as designed. It's simple to use but it doesn't give you any means of adjusting the ratio of light that is thrown up or forward. I found that if you slightly extend the catch light card that's built into the 580, then slip the omni-bounce on the flash, you can get an extra 1/3 to 1/2 stop of light thrown forward.
Until this product is redesigned to fit the 580EXII better, I can't recommend this product. It's just a single molded piece of plastic... Fix your molds Sto-Fen!!!

Works great, definitely helps to prevent washed out flash look when using a flash direct with no bounce capability. Need to increase the power of flash when using by at least 2/3 to 1

This Omni-Bounce works great on my 580 EXII, I had a different brand on my 430 EX and it always had a funny color to the pictures, they looked fine with out the diffuser but this one by Stofen looks great.. Like some of the other reviews it does fit to tight, I also heated mine up in some bolling water and used a couple sandwich bags over flash then put it on, But not to hot. Seem to help a good bit on the fit.

WOW!!! What a difference for potrait pictures background and subject lighting. It is the best diffuser at a reasonable price.
I have seen reviews on other sites that state they have difficulty fitting the diffuser on Canon 580EXII. This is not true. It was quite easy.
I also purchased another diffuser for warming tones. You can see my review for that.
I take this with me for all my shoots that require a flash.

I use the Omi-bounce on the flash while the flash is in a softbox. This softens the light a bit more. I saw this being used this way by several professional photographers in a studio set up. The Omni-bounce is durable but a bit difficult to put on the 580EX 11. A bit of stretching and pulling it will go on the flash but not very far on the head. I have only used it once since I just got the flash but in time I think that it will be easier to put on.

This is the second one I've owned, the last one I lost. I shot a wedding without it and really missed having it on my light. It has a tremendous effect on softening the light, not even the strength of the light so much but the quality. If I can't bounce my light, I've got this on it!

I have used one of these on my 580EX for years. I got another one for a 580EX II and found that it barely fits. If you are careful it likely isn't a problem, but it is something to be aware of.
Beyond that.. it works very well. It is a *must have* accessory for external flash.

I use my flash with three levels of diffusion: none, this sto-fen diffuser or a Gary Fong lightsphere. The sto-fen offers a middle amount that is good for most situations. It is also smaller to carry around than a large diffuser. Note that it does extend the lenght of the lens a bit so your 580EX will not fit in it's storage pouch with the diffuser on it.

It gives the bare bulb effect. Uhhh...It's pretty solid for what it is, a piece of molded plastic. The only thing I don't like is that it doesn't fit the 580EXII that well. It barly goes on. Very snug. If I could I would give 3 1/2 stars.
