I was leery of purchasing this item as I'd had a rather painful encounter with metal neck straps in my past. In the 70's my Father had purchased a metal neck strap with his first 35mm rangefinder camera (a Konica). As I said, it was the 70's and I had cajolled my parents into letting me wear my hair a bit longer so it was shaggy and hung far below my collar.
I was very keen to use Dad's camera and when he said that I could I was thrilled. I carried the camera reverently down to a local park and when I got there I threw the metal neck strap over my head to free my hands to manage the light meter (remember those daze?).
The chain immediately bit into the long hair at the back of my neck and would not let go. I initially tried to act cool but as I struggled to free my hair with one hand, the pain grew and I tried even harder to remove it. I finally made an attempt to lift the camera and neckstrap from around my neck but this resulted in it hanging down my back clamped to my hair. Finally, after spinning around three or four times, I got ahold of both the neck strap and my hair. I pulled at the two bits frantically and ripped them apart. Even though it didn't look as cool from that day on I have been a dedicated leather neck strap user, until now ...
So, you can see my concerns when I considered purchasing this metal neck strap ... suffice it to say my concerns were groundless. Metal neck strap technology must have been progressing by leaps and bounds sinces my "boogaloo in the park" so many years ago. The Olympus strap itself feels silky to the touch, almost as if it was made of a cloth material. It's light-weight and quite sturdy. It adds an increased sense of security when using the Olympus Digital Voice Recorder and gives you the ability to work with it without needing one had to hold onto the unit.
Inexpensive, useful and most important of all ... no hair pulling!

Comments about Olympus Metal Neck Strap:
When I want my digital voice recorder immediately at hand, for example driving or running through airports, I keep in in my shirt pocket, where it is safer with the neck strap in use.

Comments about Olympus Metal Neck Strap:
I bought this neck strap after having to replace a dropped camera. I used this neck strap on my new camera as a preventative measure. I just love it. The strap is long enough to use the camera, but short enough not to get in the way. The strap is comfortable and doesn't get tangled in my hair.
In fact, my husband liked it so much that he "borrowed" it for his work camera and I had to buy another strap. Got the very same one because it is a very useful and inexpensive item and I just love it. I am secure in knowing that my camera is not going to be dropped by me or anyone using it!

Comments about Olympus Metal Neck Strap:
I bought one of these straps a few years ago for my Stylus 1030 SW camera. I liked it so much that I bought another one for my new Olympus Tough. I use the cameras when I am skiing and doing other sports with the kids. The strap fits easily under my ski coat or in my pocket. I like a neck strap instead of a wrist strap so that I can keep my hands free. The strap bends easily, but is very durable.
