The Impact Universal Filter Holder is an ideal accessory for achieving diffusion, color correction or special color effects with any light - quartz, HMI, photoflood or flash. It can also hold polarizing filters or gobos. It mounts onto the riser of almost any light stand, and adjusts to various distances on its 3-section adjustable arm.
Note: The aperture is 12 x 12" (30.5 x 30.5 cm); it will securely hold gel filters that are cut to 12.5 x 12.5".

This frame is very convenient as it folds into a smaller footprint and can accomodate many different gels. The clips are mounted at the corners and spin at their fastening point; this gives a flexibility to shapes and size variance for your gels - and you can stack the gels. The only issue I have had with this frame is the mounting bracket is a little too small for all of my light stands; I had to carefully force it over the head of the stand so that I could mount the frame to the stand.

This is seemingly a great product from the looks of it and because it is the only filter holder of it's kind it seems very appealing but to be perfectly honest it is a piece of junk and is not constructed well enough to live up to its 40 dollar price what so ever. Within the first 10 minutes of handling the filter holder and trying to attach it to my stand i broke the piece that is supposed to tighten to the stand by simply just turning it a little to much. The piece does not come out far enough to make contact with the stand and therefore when you try to do so it breaks. I personally returned the item and got a new one but this time, thanks to a helpful hit from another buyer, i will just clamp them to my stands instead of using the product in the way it is intended.

Comments about Impact Universal Filter Holder - 12x12" (30.5x30.5cm) Aperture:
Convenient device for those who like to use the "colored" light. Using the framework easier to attach the gel to the flash. I also used to place the filter before the camera. Attaching the crumpled sheet of transparent film for laser printers before the lens, you can get some very interesting and unexpected photo.
And, finally, to fix in this frame plastic mirror, you can get comfortable reflector.

I've been struggling with attaching it to the stand, and it's a pain to move it around, and it hurts my fingers when I handle it. Not sure why it costs the money it does, being so roughly made. But it serves the purpose, I am using it.

I am a professional photographer,I bought this filter holder along with a Quick Location Lighting Filter Pack by LEE Filters. The filters are a little larger than the frame, but add a bit more distance from the hot lamp bulb.Works out very good, all in all.The frame is quality made, and is highly adjustable and adaptable on several of my light stands.I would highly recommend this product.Michael D Capps[@]

Comments about Impact Universal Filter Holder - 12x12" (30.5x30.5cm) Aperture:
I'm a pro video producer and found these to be a total waste of money. I, unfortunately, bought 2 of these. The attachment to the light stand doesn't fit any of the 3 different light stands I use - with or without the insert. Also both tightening inserts broke immediately rendering them useless. A complete waste of time and money...

Shooting with polarizing filter for slides of oil paintings. Tightening clamp breaks very very very easily. Using standard size light stand. Tried to screw the clamp to hold on stand pole and within three turns the plastic that holds bolt cracks as you tighten it. A waste of money!

Other than that, they do what they say. The construcyion is not bad, and it holds the gels just fine. Pros won't be happy with this, but if you're looking for a low cost solution this is it.

Unit almost is the right size for the gels [...] can be made to work, but not a cinch. Unit has a circular pole mount (about 3/4" diameter), which does not work with any other equipment that I have, so I have [*]rig it with another light stand. It just isn't configured well to work on the same stand as a light that you would place behind it. Look carefully at the photo, before deciding it will work for you. It might be better to buy a simple par can and some gels to slip on front of it. I'm thinking I'll replace this product in that manner, which would be a lot easier to use.

I bought 3 units [...]. I was very disastisfied as the first joint nearest to where you attach it to the light stand is non-adjustable and kept slipping, causing the filter holder to keep dropping down. [...]

It does a good job holding gels so long that you don't touch or move your light to much. Very flimsy and cheap for the price. however it has made the task of keeping my gels up.

Comments about Impact Universal Filter Holder - 12x12" (30.5x30.5cm) Aperture:
Thanks to the reviews of others, I knew this product had problems. But, the basic product filled a need I had (putting a gel in front of a light that didn't have barn doors). Since others had complained that the attachment to the light stand was the design flaw, I anticipated removing that part and finding some other way to attach the filter holder to the light stand. After receiving the two filter holders I ordered, I noodled around a bit and found that a Vise-Grip Sheet Metal workers plier/clamp could hold the filter holder to the light stand very effectively without doing any damage to my light stands. I agree with other reviewers that this was a pricey item made pricier by having to modify it. However, I couldn't find anything else to serve the purpose, so pricey was better than nothing...

Comments about Impact Universal Filter Holder - 12x12" (30.5x30.5cm) Aperture:
This gel holder is functional with a few things to watch for. The articulated joint design is poor and often slips. It requires a lot of tension to hold it in place. The weakest aspected of the design is the way it mounts to a light stand. It should have an open clamp that would fit a wider variety of stand sizes. Further, the mount should fasten more securely than it does.
The holder is very compact and quite portable. The integrated gel clips are very useful.
Bottom Line:
This is functional but flimsy and should be priced a little lower for the build quality.

Poorly designed attachment system (both for attaching the holder to the light stand, and for attaching the gels to the holder).
Somewhat flimsy and hard to position, but with a little patience, it works. I don't expect it to last forever...
