Gitzo G-1097 Weekend Compact Basalt Tripod Legs - Supports 4.4 lb (2 kg)

As part of the Gitzo Weekend - series 0, the G1097 Basalt tripod is the smallest member of the family of Gitzo Basalt fiber tripods. The G1097 is lightweight and compact enough to take along in a backpack or system bag, and capable of holding a compact digital or 35mm SLR camera, or a small camcorder.

Created from volcanic rock, Gitzo has utilized the volcanic-based basalt to develop tripods of exceptional performance, stability, and durability. The basalt, a black lightweight rock, is pulverized, then melted at extreme temperature (2732 degrees F) and combined with other materials and spun into a strong fiber which is used to create multi-layer composite tubing. The result is a non-rotating tube of exceptional performance that meets the demands of today's professional photographers.

Basalt tripods are more durable and better at absorbing vibrations than aluminum models with similar dimensions. These legs are tougher than aluminum, yet they are 20 percent lighter.
