I purchased this product for my iMac so I could keep the "Time machine" external drive hooked up while downloading digital movies. Before I purchased the Hub, I had to disconnect the hard-drive and connect the download cord. Not only did the product include a high-quality firewire cord, the Hub worked fine without the AC adaptor, keeping the cluster of wires manageable.
The Hub arrived in less than four days in perfect condition and was up and running in less than five minutes.

Some of the ports were unable to connect. Others would connect but were seemingly intermittent. Had to return Belkin. At Belkin it was unclear as to whether it was meant for use to accept a 400 firewire input from an 800 to 400 adapter cable. Still vague.

It's a great product. I've never seen a multiple-port fire wire connection like it. Now I have free fire ports on my mac pro.

Comments about Belkin 6-Port FireWire-400 Hub:
The firewire works exactly as promised, although I wish it had a few 9 pin inputs as that is what my computer uses and I had to invest in Firewire converters and 9 to 6 pin. Not sure why it includes a separate charger that you can plug in since it is self powered... but overall does what I need it to do which is act as a hub for my camera, Harddrive and external monitor.

If you are videographer, do not waste your money on this product. During downloading high-speed data, it disconnects not expectable and it almost crashed my hard drive.

I needed this hub to connect two external hard drives and it accomplished that objective. To date it has worked well with or without its own power supply.

My company does a lot of on-location video production where we need to be able to have several firewire devices attached to our laptop. The Belkin 6 port firewire hub gives us the extra ports we need to get our job done right. It is an excellent product.

Comments about Belkin 6-Port FireWire-400 Hub:
I have two computers & two additional "outboard" hard drives, plus multiple other devices that work best with Firewire. Having all the ports in one device is great, no unplugging & re-plugging & keeping track of various cords.

I didn't have enough ports on computer and could not link 3 external drives. Additionally it wasn't easy to find firewire hubs at local outlets. Ordered Belkin hub and it worked immediately without a hitch. Have drives attached with room to spare. Highly recommended!

On my MacBook Pro, because I only had one firewire port, I was unable to stream video from my video camera directly to my firewire hard drive. I purchased this firewire hub, and after plugging in, I'm able to "capture" the video directly to my external hard drive. Perfect!

Comments about Belkin 6-Port FireWire-400 Hub:
I bought this product because I was having trouble with an external hard drive that my iMac's firewire port would not pick up. Later I found out the computer's port needed more power for the hard drive to work, so I bought this Hub which has its own power adapter. Plugged everything in and now not only is the hard drive working fine but I also have extra firewire ports for the future. The unit itself is compact, measuring about 2" x 3", and it seats right on the desk behind my iMac. Hard to find anything better for the price.
