Zeiss Lens Hood for 35mm and 50mm ZM Rangefinder Lenses
Lens hoods are primarily designed to prevent unwanted stray light from entering the lens by extending and shading the end of the lens. In addition, since the end of the lens is extended, you also get the added benefit of some extra protection from accidental impact.
Dedicated lens hoods are designed to match the specific focal length of the lens it was designed for.

If one wants to use a hood with the Zeiss 35 or 50 mm M lens there is little choice. This (quite expensive) hood does the job well but it increases significantly the bulk of the lens as it sticks out quite a bit when mounted. As a result, it obstructs the vision in the view finder: without it you almost can't see the lens, but with the hood the bottom right corner gets obscured. I think for the price Zeiss could have come up with something better.

Mounts securely and easily and does a good job of shading the front element of my Zeiss Biogon 2/35.
It does increase the size/length of the Biogon, but that's a small price to pay for even more freedom from flare.
