The previous reviewer who didn't like it may not have understood how it works. In essence, it's an attenuator for powered mics to drop the signal from the louder mic to the level of the quieter mic, with the overall level recorded to tape set by the camcorder. Unlike a bulkier, heavier mixer (e.g. Azden FMX-20), it only attenuates; it does not amplify. The now-equalized signal from one mic is sent to the R channel, and from the other to the L channel. A third input is available, that sends that mic's signal to both channels. Also, it does not pass dc plug-in power from camcorders (e.g. Sony) to the mics, so the mics have to be separately powered. I typically use mine to send the signal from a Sennheiser MKE300 shotgun to one channel, and from either a (powered) lavalier or a (powered) rf mic to the other, with the relative levels of the two mics set by the Azden and the overall level set by the camcorder. It's great for this application.

Comments about Azden CAM-3 3-Channel Mic Mixer:
It seems to work just like it's supposed to. Another thing I am trying with it is using it as an interface between my Yamaha microphone mixer and my camcorder. I get a tiny hum when I do that but not nearly as much as when I attach my mixer directly to the camera.

Comments about Azden CAM-3 3-Channel Mic Mixer:
I plugged this in right away and made a recording. I really had sort of low expectations for it because of the cost, but, turns out, it works great with no sound loss or distortion. For my industrial/educational videos it will be just fine.

Comments about Azden CAM-3 3-Channel Mic Mixer:
I'm very surprised that none of the other reviewers have mentioned the high-pitched hum that this unit creates. I have been using it to film a reality show pilot with a Sony HDR series camera and after going back over some of the footage I noticed this hum in all of it. So I took the took the camera out and listened more closely with the headphones on and sure enough it was there. I've tested it several times without the mixer connected and with the mixer connected and it seems clear that the mixer is adding the high-pitched hum. Otherwise it would be a great, useful, product at an amazing price. Too bad.

This is a great device when you require more than one external mic simultaneously. Would have given it 4 stars, but it has one drawback: they only provide flimsy attachments to secure it to the camera.

Comments about Azden CAM-3 3-Channel Mic Mixer:
Needed a mixer for multiple audio devices (all powered) fed to camera's single ext. mic jack. Was a little skeptical at first due to cheap price and mixed reviews. It works well for my application using it for live event web-casts. Now I'm able to connect 2 mics (wireless lav & shotgun) AND MP3 player (for background music) to my camera easily. Even allows me to fade music in/out as needed. I couldn't be more satisfied. 1 input is stereo; other 2 are mono L and R. I used a miniplug Y-cable (2 stereo males to 1 stereo female) to force mono inputs to act as 2nd stereo input.

Comments about Azden CAM-3 3-Channel Mic Mixer:
It works fine, but the sound comes out quite low, so you'll need some sort of amplification either before or after it.

Product works great with my wireless mics and shotgun mic.
Being able to control both of the levels on each makes a huge difference.
Finding some place to attatch it on my cam was the only down side.

Comments about Azden CAM-3 3-Channel Mic Mixer:
Pretty much useless. Does not perform as advertised. Audio levels from different channels vary greatly. Spend a few more bucks and get a Studio 1 or Beachtek.
