The Tamron AF18-200mm F/3.5-6.3 XR Di-II LD Aspherical (IF) MACRO is a high power zoom lens designed exclusively for digital SLR cameras using the more compact (APS-C) digital size image sensors. The focal length of this lens is equivalent to approx. 28-300mm in 35mm format.
Designed as an "all-in-one" lens, it will meet almost all photographic opportunities without changing lenses.
The 18-200mm zoom lens realizes an MFD (Minimum Focus Distance) of 1.5' (45 cm) over the entire zoom range by the employment of a new optical/mechanical design configuration. Since the maximum magnification ratio at f=200mm is 1:3.7, you can enjoy close-up photography easily and conveniently.
Note: Di-II lenses cannot be used with digital SLR cameras using image sensors that are larger than that of an APS-C size imager, or with 35mm film SLR cameras.

This is a great all purpose lense, especially for traveling. In the past, it was tough to pick the right lenses before traveling. I either left a useful lense at home or had to carry a heavy bag of lenses during the trip.
Thanks to Tamron, this 18-200mm zoom lense solves the problem. With 62mm filter size and only 3.3 inches long, it is one of the most compact zoom lenses in the market. The price is affordable too. After rebate, it is almost half price compared to either Sony 18-200mm or Tamron 18-250mm lense.
Focus is very sharp thru out all focal length, but a little slow and noisy. Exposure is a bit soft and dark at 200mm (with or without flash). With sufficient light, this lense is as good as other quality lenses.
So picking the right lenses before the trip is no longer an issue for me. Tamron 18-200mm (general use) and Sony 35mm F1.4 (low light without flash)can cover most situation while traveling.

I bought this lens as Christmas present. It is used mostly for portrait's, landscapes and general overall hobby photography.
It is light and compact enough not to interfere with carrying it for long periods of time; the macro feature works great;as well as the lower aperature for low light situations.
I would, however like to see the lens auto focus work faster. It seems to take it longer than average to focus on stationary objects, as well as moving subjects.
Overall, my gift choice was dead on for my friend, and I would buy Tamron lens and other products again in the future. They have most defintely come a long way since my first Tamron purchase 18 years ago!

I got this lens as a Christmas gift. This will be my all around lens. I have had it for about 3 weeks. So far a great lens, quick focus and clear photos. I have a Sony A33, this lens is a replacement for the 2 kit lenses.

This lens is my sharpest lens for my Sony A550. Beats my Minolta lenses.

I wanted a lens that my wife and I would be able to use over a wider range than the 18-55 that came with our camera. This one is working great so far. I have been very impressed with the quality of the photos. The only downsides I have noticed are; the weight (but for the extended range, its worth it) and the lens sometimes zooms if it's facing down and not locked. The overall length when zoomed out isnt much bigger than the 18-55 that came with the camera either so my old case still works.

I use this on my A390. It is my all around lens. I enjoy taking landscape shots, and this lens does a great job. I am just a hobbyist. But this lens gets me close when I cant get there myself. The AF can be a litte slow at times, but it doesn't bother me too much.

Bought it because of the rebate offered mainly, and to replace the 2 stock lens that came with the camera, it was a good buy, I now have one lens that does what 2 use to do. only major problem is lens creep but there is a lock on the lens so you just need to remember to engage it to prevent this..also it takes some time to get use to the slower focus but for the price its great.

I purchased this lens so I wouldn't have to swap lenses as much when shooting outdoors, sports, etc. The lens has done everything it says it will, it feels a lot more sturdy than the kit lens that came with the camera or even the other Sony 80-300mm lens I have. Auto focus is fast, pictures are very clear and no issues with any part of it so far.

I have used this lens for everything from macro shots of spiders to portraits and candid shots at a graduation. It has more than met my expectations for the price I paid. It has quickly become my go to lens for almost anything. The only issue I have, and it is minor, is that in autofocus mode it seems to be a bit slow to focus. Since I primarily use manual focus most of the time this is not a big deal to me.

With this lens I don't have to carry around my other two for short or long distance. This one does it all and with great clarity and speed. Now I don't have to carry around my camera case with the extra lens just the camera with the Tamron lens. I would recommend this to anyone.

I was able to replace 2 different lenses in my bag(18-55mm and 28-200mm) with this one. It's great not having to switch lenses everytime I turn around. Wide angle to a decent zoom in one lens! Auto-Focus can be slow at times, but I mostly use manual focus, so that doesn't really affect me.

Reviews said it was slow....it is
But it also hunts for focus and when you finally get to take a picture, objects are out of focus.
The focus range is great for a walk around lens but since it takes so long to focus or never really gets crisp and clear, you miss shots.
This lens is now a paperweight. Bummer, this would be a great lens.

I find the lense is well worth the money I paid for it. I used it in Belize and took 2 other lenses be never used them. It is wide enough for landscapes and great for closeups. It is light wieght and saves me from changing out the lense for portraits from landscapes. I am using it in again for a wedding shoot in a small hall. The zoom will allow me to not be obtrusive.
I did notice a slight distortion in the horizon when doing sunrises. It was easily corrected in Photoshop.

Honestly I was on the verge of changing cameras in part because I was tired of lugging around multiple lenses. For years I had eyed this lens thinking I might really enjoy it and when the price dropped I bought it. The range is fantastic. The weight is very reasonable. Not the fastest lens in the world but for my purposes it does the job very well and the images look great. Best of all I have one lens on my camera to serve all purposes. It's a winner!

Wonderful walk-around lens, its on my camera half of the time (the other half i'm shooting with clients and have my 35mm f1.8 on) This is great for shooting just about everything. not perfect in low light, but for a all-purpose lens i wouldn't expect it to match my 35mm f1.8 for low-light capabilities.

Because SONY is limited in its compatibility, the TAMRON lens is fine for an SLR beginner (Alpha 350). This is the second 18-200 TAMRON I have purchased. The first one had a bit of "creep", and I was not very careful with it (my fault). I like the range of this lens.

This is probably the most versatile lens in the bag. I primarily take travel pictures for resale as well as personal enjoyment and the range of 18-200 allows more flexibility for me in packing and carrying equipment. The picture quality does sometimes reflect the characteristics of a multi-purpose lens but for the money, flexibility and results it is an excellent product.
