The Hum X from Ebtech is a safe and economical way to get rid of ground loop hum. It works by placing the unit on the end of the power cord of the equipment that has a ground loop and then plugging the Hum X into any standard 15 amp outlet.
The Hum X filters out unwanted voltage and current in the ground line that cause ground loop hum, while simultaneously maintaining a solid, safe ground. Audio signals no longer need be run through any type of filtering which can result in loss of volume, tone or both.
Some devices simply remove the ground, which is never safe. The Hum X is easy to use, easy to install, safe and completely effective.

I figured nothing to lose at this point and ordered it online. [...], plugged it in and NO HUM, its a miracle!!! I worked on this problem for over one year trying everthing I and others suggested with no luck. Thank You. This should be advertized or sold where subs are sold as this problem is common to this type of equipment.

I plugged my multi-outlet box into it and it into the wall (so I could keep the hum out with a mixer and two timecode-slaved recording decks) and the hum was still there - not eliminated - not even reduced. Does it say that this will only work with a single device plugged into it and not an outlet box? If so I will remove this review and chalk it up to user error. At any rate I was severely disappointed by the lack of results, since I have several audio devices plugged in for recording video projects on location and have to switch to eating up a huge number of batteries to eliminate the hum.

Comments about Ebtech Hum X Ground Loop Hum Eliminator:
I am a working musician who deals with a lot of irregular electrical situations. I have had an Ebtech Hum eliminator in my aresenal for quite some time. After switching to a new amp, there was a ground loop between it and my pedal board that was irritatingly audible. I used my Hum eliminator in the signal chain and it cancelled the hum great but it does color the tone a little.
The perfect solution in this situation is the Hum X. I just plugged the amp into it and voila! Hum gone, tone intact. I was also pleased to find it at B & H for the least expensive price on the Net with no shipping. Great deal all around.

I bought the Hum X to kill the buzzing in my amplifier. This thing does what it says. Having a line conditioner also helped the amp buzzing. I'm buzz free to this day. It's recommended to use this item for only one item. Putting a noise gate before and after the loop helped to smooth out the tone of the amp.

When I removed my solid state stereo amp and replaced it with a stereo tube amplifier a hum became present in the speakers. Used Ebtech's troubling shooting guide and found I now had a ground loop. I placed the humbuster on the stereo tube amp and the hum was gone. This has provided a safe and economical way to deal with a problem not anticipated. Only negative is the configuration limits the option to placement in the power distribution system.

Anyone who has tried to track down the source of a ground-loop problem knows how frustrating it can be.
The Hum X immediately removes the ground-loop. No more "BUZZZ, "HUMMM," or wavy projected images.
Simple to install, instant results.

Been having issues with a 10 year old Yamaha Motif. outputs were noisy with a static sound and hum. Tried various cords, cables, and outlets but to no avail. Wasn't pleased with the results from noise gates. I Was resigned on never using this synth again because of the noise although I really like the bread and butter sounds. Bought this after watching a youtube video on ground loops and now there is no noise. I've got the yamaha motif in use and noise free.

I was getting a terrible noise through my speakers and headphones. It was somewhere between a hum and static noises. What more can I say except, "It works!" I plugged the computer into the Hum-X and no more noise.

Excelent, I have a 100K plus stereo system, but have sufferered with hum since 6 months had passed that the technician set up my VPI turntable. I was buying some photo equipments at B&H and stumbled to this little device. Decided to give it a try and what a good surprise, it workerd perfeclty the first time I plugged it. I was in doubt if I would use it in the phono preamp cable or in the turntable. As my Clearaudio Reference preamp actually uses two power cables, one for each stereo channel, I had to use in the turntable and voila, perfect hum elimination. Highly recommended.

I bought this based on many positive reviews, but it did not eliminate the hum in my AV camcorder/powered mixer setup. I tried plugging it in on every power cord, but could not isolate the issue. I suspect my problem is bigger than what this device can do on its own, and I was trying to put a band-aid on a bigger wound than it was designed for. I would still recommend this to others if they know the specific source of the ground loop, and I may purchase one again in the future for simple on-location uses. As for my current set-up, I will just keep running my camcorder on battery power for the time being.

I guess my hum is coming from my amp and not from the lack of grounded wiring. Make sure you know where your hum is coming from before you buy this. It may not be what you need.

Comments about Ebtech Hum X Ground Loop Hum Eliminator:
The Hum-X eliminates 97% of the ground loop hum. I have a Primaluna tube seperate pre-amp/amp the hum was very audiable. After I plugged the Hum-X into the amp it worked...but if you put your ear to the speaker you can still hear a faint hum thats why I say it eliminates 97% of the hum. Note: the instructions say you should have a plug for each piece of equiptment for best results. So I bought another Hum-X for the pre-amp. Also I have read reviews where people just plug into a power strip , this is not recommended it should not be used on equiptment exceeding 6 amps! Make sure you read the short instructions included in the package! over all I am very satisfied! the price was right at B&H..[...]

I read the previous reviews and there were a lot that said this isn't the right way to correct the 'hum' that I get from my powered speaker. BUT I purchased anyway and it works GREAT!
It worked the first time I plugged it in! I use a Behringer B215D powered speaker for a trivia night I host and when I'm not announcing the trivia questions there was annoyingly loud. After purchasing this there is NO hum! Great product for simple grounding!

Comments about Ebtech Hum X Ground Loop Hum Eliminator:
We have a problem with 60Hz, 60mV hum in the analog video of our signal distribution system.
Plugging the receiving equipment into the Hum Bucker successfully eliminated the hum.
Unfortunately this method will not work for us because if any equipment is connected to the video that is not isolated with a Humbucker the hum will return. We are gong to have to isolate the signals themselves.
I would still recommend this product to eliminate hum if the equipment on the receiving end is a fixed installation.
