The Sony CCD-TRV138 Hi-8 Handycam camcorder keeps your memories alive in full color, excellent detail and great quality sound. It features the Hi-8 format that makes your videos look real.
It also features a long 20x Optical and a 990x digital zoom interpolation that creates clearer, sharper images for extreme digital zooming. Record into the night, using the NightShot Plus infrared recording system, an advanced feature that lets you shoot great video even in total darkness.

- Hi-8 Format
- This is a high-quality video and audio recording format, with up to 400 lines of horizontal resolution on an affordable video cassette.
- Easy Handycam Button
- Using a camcorder can be intimidating for some people, so with a press of the Easy Handycam button, most of the advanced features of the camcorder can be locked out, leaving only the buttons essential for recording operational.
- Zoom
- The optical zoom helps to bring the action close up from far away. In addition the digital zoom interpolation means that extreme digital zooming is clearer, with less distortion than previous methods of digital zoom.
- Night Shot Plus Infrared System
- With Sony's NightShot Infrared System you can capture natural looking video even when shooting in low light. Record subjects up to 10 feet away using the built-in infrared system.
- Manual Focus
- Allows the user to manually adjust the focus of the camcorder using the dial. Manual focusing also allows the user to control the focus in difficult situations where either the environment or the subject does not allow the camcorder's auto focus to perform optimally, such as when shooting through a window or in a crowded environment.
- Program Auto Exposure
- Program AE modes make recording easy even when filming in challenging situations. Choose from Portrait, Beach & Ski, Sports Lesson, Landscape, Spotlight or Sunset & Moon modes.
- End Search
- Automatically advances the video tape to the last five seconds of the recorded scene. This prevents accidentally recording over previously recorded videos.
- Built-in White LED Light
- Brighten your video and reduce shadows when shooting in low light situations. The LED light uses considerably less power than bulb-based light systems, with the same light output.
- Battery Information
- At the touch of a button battery information is displayed on the LCD screen, both when charging and when the camcorder is turned off. The display will show how much the battery is charged, in 10 percent increments, and the recordable time left either in the LCD screen or in the viewfinder.
- Multi Language Menu
- Change the menu display from English to Canadian French, Latin American Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese, Korean or Traditional Chinese.

I'm a professional photographer and I bought this camera to video tape my kids and family events.This camera is incredibly compact, lightweight and easy to use. I particularly like using the LCD screen to navigate through the menu options.A nice surprise it that it has some neat scene features beyond your typical fade-in and fade-out. There is also a built in screen title generater with font color and size options.The audio is superb, monaural, but very clean and vibrant. I can still use my vast store of 8mm or Hi8 tapes or buy them cheap online.This is the perfect camera for dad, mom, grandpa, etc, and it's not going to sit around gathering dust.Ours get used weekly as the kids are having fun with it videotaping their friends and posting stuff online.Very durable and reliable and an absolute steal.I would recommend that you clean the heads fairly frequently and especially before an important event.Best head cleaners have Freon TF as an ingredient as it absolutely dissolves all kinds of tape crud instantly. Great for tape decks as well as cleaning your phonograph needle.My next step from here is the VX-2100
