Comments about Cartoni F101 Focus Aluminum Tripod System - Includes F100 Focus Fluid Head, A500 Camera Mounting Plate, B464 Telescoping Pan Arm, A302 1-Stage Ultra-Light Tripod, P730 Mid-Level Spreader, and B410 Soft Carrying Case - Supports 22 lbs (10 kg):
I came across this tripod and head a few months ago and I was completely stunned by how smooth and controlled the panning was from the very first touch. I ended up doing a little research on it and was even more surprised to find out how inexpensive the Cartoni was at B&H. I honestly was expecting the price to be in the $3k - $5k range from the way it felt. I've been using it with a Canon XH-A1s both with and without a tripod mounted teleprompter, and either way the control is superb... even with the extra weight. I only wish that the Cartoni Tripod Dolly was as reasonably priced since I ended up going with another brand and the tripods feet were too large to fit in the 'universal' clamps. I ended up fabricating feet with a T10 mm extension that screw right on and I couldn't be happier.

I am a professional video producer, cinematographer and editor. I come from a Sachtler background and have extensive experience using the higher end $7000 tripods, like the Video 18, as well as the lower end ones. I own an HVX200 and needed something that could handle its 6.5lb plus other heavy accesories like the Letus Pro and occasional heavier 2/3" ENG cameras. I purchased this tripod after numerous months of research and test-run comparison with the Sachtler FSB DV line. The Cartoni F101 with its stable legs and bowl size is comparable to that of Sachtler's $7000 models for a fraction of the price. Whereas the FSB-4 Sachtler is not as stable when panning and tilting, cant handle as much load and is only $300 lower in price . In other words, although Sachtler manufactures fine professional products and I do enjoy using them , they are way over priced!
The one draw back to this product is that when extending the lower feet they have the tendency to turn awkward directions because the legs don't have extension guides. You must physically twist the feet the correct orientation... a small issue that you will quickly become used to and learn to fix on the fly.

I've tried a lot of fluid heads in this price range, and the Cartoni Focus is definitely my favorite. We have put this setup through hell doing nature cinematography with a heavy JVC HD100 for years with no problems at all.
Great drag adjustment. Find a better case, like the portabrace backpack and your golden.

Commercial and industrial use. Solid construction, smooth head, good tracking.

The balance on the Focus is going to be a trad off with abare HVX but once you get a lens adapter and shift someweight forward then it is all magic.
Problems Encountered: I'd like for it to get a bit lower but at least this thingis solid like a rock.
