The now legendary Nikkor 35mm f/1.4 AIS Manual Focus Lens was introduced specifically for press photography. It was and still is among the fastest wide angle lenses available. High speed, high image quality, focusing down to 12" and rugged construction - this lens has it all.
This lens is constructed in the classic all-metal Nikon style to extremely high standards. Nikon's Close-Range-Correction (CRC) assures image quality at near focusing distances. Despite its high speed Nikon has maintained their convenient 52mm filter size on this lens.

Comments about Nikon Nikkor 35mm f/1.4 AIS Manual Focus Lens:
Rarely do I get excited so quickly over a lens. Even though lenses are key to great photo. WIth this lens I've taken maybe 1000 photos with it (2 weeks since it arrived in my hands) and already I'm thinking I should get a back up. I do not have any other lenses that I feel this way about. The closest would be the 85mm f1.8.
I use it on my Nikon D700 and D300s. The photos on the D700 are definitely superior photos than on the D300s. They're simply sweet. (See reports they all agree with my experience here.)
I mostly take photos for NGO's of children and their context. Indoors I am shooting with f2.0 or 2.8. It nicely separates the child from the context yet allowing you to see and understand the story of where the child is and what is going on. Closed down to 4 and 5.6 it gets a nice depth of field focusing on a group of kids. The lens is just fun to shoot with.
The manual focus is easily on the D700, it took about 200 photos before I started to catch on to the lens' output. I even got some kids doing back flips. I understand why Nikon continues to produce it even though they have the AF-s model. Its just a magnificent lens.

Comments about Nikon Nikkor 35mm f/1.4 AIS Manual Focus Lens:
I have used this lens regularly for over 25 years on F3, F5, D80, D300, D700, and D3 cameras. It is a mainstay for overall sharpness, ease of focus, and low light performance. Forward focusing at f1.4 yields sharp subjects and soft, even bokeh throughout the background. Focusing under any condition is easy with matte screens due to the bright finder image; especially for one with my aging eyes.
Some reviews claim that the Nikkor 35mm f2 AF supplants this lens. I have both and am unconvinced of the claim. The AF lens is good and can more convenient to use, but the AIS lens creates images which I can immediately distinguish from the AF lens images.
I own and regularly use a lot of Nikon glass, AIS through AF-G. I agree with those who swear by this lens as one of the finest Nikon ever produced. Eventually it will be discontinued and I expect the price to soar on the used market as has happened to other discontinued, classic lenses.

Comments about Nikon Nikkor 35mm f/1.4 AIS Manual Focus Lens:
I bargain my 35 1.4 AI-S for a 18-70 DX!!! Best deal ever. It's used, but the sharpest lens on both analog and digital cameras. It's give me extra "f" stops, even wide open, when tripod is not allowed to use. If the quality is matter, you must have one in your camera bag.

Film or digital, you own a F-mount, this is a must have.
Versatility with speed to match, low light, close quarters, wedding to personal and journalistic use, to top all things off, made in Japan and rock solid build.
Unless you travel to Japan, B&H so far is the only place to get this, unless you want second hand via e-commerce.

Comments about Nikon Nikkor 35mm f/1.4 AIS Manual Focus Lens:
One of Nikon's sharpest lenses! Great in the narrow range of f/4 to f/8.... doesn't get any better! A must have lens if you're a Nikon Manual Shooter or a collector of fine glass.
