The Celestron NexStar 130SLT Newtonian Reflector Telescope offers a number of excellent features, including freedom from most optical aberrations, reasonable compactness & portability, and (most importantly) a ton of light gathering power per dollar spent.
The Newtonian telescope is the most popular configuration for more serious beginning or intermediate level astronomy enthusiasts. Deep-sky observation of galaxies, star clusters and nebulae, as well as lunar and planetary viewing are all possible with stunning resolution.
Celestron's NexStar SLT (Star Locating Telescope) refractors and reflectors have a sophisticated alignment system called SkyAlign, which lets you use practically any three celestial objects to align the scope when these are included with the date, time and location. It is fast, accurate and easily performed by anyone.

Works ok to get started on finding things to look at. Disappointed that my dslr (canon 7d) won't focus despite having the right attachments. Lot

Comments about Celestron NexStar 130 SLT 5.1"/130mm Reflector Telescope Kit:
This was the first real telescope that I have purchased. So far I really love the thing. It is insanely easy to locate and find stars, even if you don not align it. The optics are clear and I would definitely recommended this to anyone seriously considering getting into astronomy. There are a few minor issues I did have, however. The tripod is good but does have small vibration problems and also the mount that grabs the tube itself is good but it can be difficult to determine if the tube is locked in place well. These setbacks are well worth the low price though.

Comments about Celestron NexStar 130 SLT 5.1"/130mm Reflector Telescope Kit:
I have long been interested in astronomy, but until I retired had no time. I did a good deal of reseach before I selected the Celestrom 130 SLT as I knew almost nothing about telescopes. I also did a great deal of comparrison shopping for a vendor after I knew which scope I wanted.
The telescope simply does everything as promissed. I was able to align it on the first try, and found the use of the tour and lunar menu options to be extremely accurate. Everytime I select an object from the menu to observe, it is right there centered in the eyepiece.
The only con I would point to is that while the 25mm lens is perfect for alighnment and the 9mm lense is perfect for lunar observation, you need stronger optics to observe planets and stars. The Celestron website has an excellent review on the 130 written by a real scientist that really helped me decide which accessories I need to add. I just ordered the 1.5" lens and filter accessory kit because it has everthing this gentleman suggested included.
